Ich fahre jeden Morgen mit dem Rad zur Arbeit und stelle fest, dass nicht wenige Radfahrer einfach so Verkehrsregeln missachten. Ich rede hier nicht von rasenden Typen, die mal schnell irgendwo hinhuschen, sondern von älteren Frauen, die einfach so über rot fahren, zum Beispiel. Und dann wundert ihr euch, wenn ihr angefahren werdet oder Autofahrer wütend auf euch werden? Ich begreife das nicht. #fahrrad #alltag #cycling

A new report from the Urban #Transport Group (UTG) calls for greater investment in walking, wheeling and #cycling to create more integrated public transport networks. It says 43% of urban journeys under five miles are walked or cycled, while 68% of residents want more direct routes between homes and bus stops. Some 70% want pavements free from parked cars, while 88% of women feel unsafe walking alone after dark. The report, From Doorstep to Destination: Enabling joined-up journeys, says every public transport trip starts and ends with a local journey. It recommends wider use of low-cost zebra crossings, stronger action on pavement parking, better street design and maintenance, improved safety, more cycle parking at stations and greater emphasis on active travel in new developments. Nothing currently out of action, but a few years ago, my cyclo-cross bike was out of action for around six weeks in the midst of the season. I tore off the rear mech in a race, trashing it and the mech hanger in the process. It's an unfortunately typical cyclo-cross occurrence. The delay was caused by a shop's inability to order the correct replacement hanger. This was the shop that sold me the bike, so no excuse for ordering the wrong one more than once. After that, I bought a second cyclo-cross bike to cover such eventualities in the future. And typically, since then I have never needed that bike as a back-up! #BikeNite #Cycling #CycloCross

It's #BandcampFriday I used to promote my album "Songs the Brothers Warner Taught Me" and my original EP and singles on this day, but I'm rethinking Bandcamp due to the usual stuff when companies get sold. However, I still have a lot of debt to pay off for getting my mobility aid this year. It cost thousands of dollars to buy, and yet more to pay customs and taxes on it. So my spare tube was the item that made them hand check my bag this morning. The valve is hard to identify on the scan apparently, everything else was OK because I had taken it out for the visual check on the tray (including a qr skewer and Allen keys). #cycling #BikeTootet #flyingwithbikes

I also had a lovely conversation with and older lady cyclist at the supermarket. She arrived as I was attempting to strap the box to my bike, so I vacated the single cycle rack for her. We started talking about the general lack of cycle parking in #NewPlymouth and ended up discussing the Queen St pedestrianisation project, the tim-tam cycleway and the upcoming election. Took the road bike for a ride, it had been *a while* because Scarbs and all. I had forgotten how fast and light this bike feels compared even to the new commuter - I try to stay around 25km/h in the city for safety and I have to watch myself so I don’t go too fast. It’s very easy to go whoosh and I know from personal experience bad things can happen when I whoosh Love this bike 💜 #biketooter #cycling #bike
