⚠️ Don't update from /e/OS 4.0 to 4.1.1! The main reason is that @murena@mastodon.social removed #Seedvault. They replaced it with their own backup app (based on Seedvault as I've heard) that only can backup to their own cloud! The problem with this is that you now have to pay for a backup, because who has a backup below 1GB. 🤷🏻
Yes, you've heard it right, #Murena goes vendor lock-in! It's now 100% clear that it's not about a Google alternative, but about their own payed services (what is just a customized Nextcloud).
There are also some other bugs, that only will be fixed in 4.2 or 4.3, but nothing about the Seedvault removal. So people can't choose their backup location anymore. Multiple people asked on their forum, but no definitive answer was given. See here: https://community.e.foundation/t/feedback-for-v4-1-1
This is not their first time they messed it up. They also removed Material You, so they force you to use blue accent colours.
Hopefully someone knows how to safely migrate to #LineageOS or another reliable custom ROM for a #Fairphone 6?

September 2026 entscheidet ein Google-Systemdienst, ob eine App auf deinem Android installiert werden darf, egal ob sie aus dem Play Store, von F-Droid oder per Kabel vom eigenen Rechner kommt. Deinstallieren kannst du ihn nicht, und was als Malware gilt, bestimmt Google allein. Reden wir drüber!

Ich habe eben mein altes OnePlus 5 mit LineageOS bestückt und bin überrascht, wie flott das noch läuft!

Bizzarro question but I have no experience here whatsoever. I'm looking at 2Din stereos to upgrade my car radio with, and there's some with android auto. That's just a smartphone processor running in there, right? Are there any units where you can replace the OS with something like LineageOS or PostmarketOS? I only want a gps and bluetooth/wifi for internet audio streaming. And I'm fine with tweaking things myself.

Am I the only one having issues with the Aurora #Android app? Updating & installing apps seems broken.
I'm using V4.8.3 on LineageOS 22.2 (Android 15) & on Iodé 7.6 (Android 16). The latter returns "Unable to parse TLS packet header" the older Android phone attempts to download & silently fails. It does not matter if I use a Google account or an anonymous account.
Are you able to update/install apps with Aurora?

In dieser Ausgabe erklärt Thomas Rudolph, warum #Google die Installation von #Android-Apps aus freien Quellen deutlich stärker reglementieren will.
Android war bisher flexibler als #iOS, weil #APK-Dateien und alternative Paketquellen wie F-Droid grundsätzlich nutzbar waren.
Zudem sollen Entwickler künftig ihre Identität nachweisen und Gebühren zahlen, bevor ihre Apps auf vielen Geräten installiert werden können.
Die Sendung zeigt außerdem, wie Google Play-Dienste diese Einschränkungen auch auf älteren Geräten ab Android 8 durchsetzen könnten.
Als Gegenentwurf werden entgoogelte Android-Varianten wie /e/OS, #LineageOS, #GrapheneOS und #iodéOS eingeordnet. #Linux-Systeme für #Mobiltelefone bleiben dagegen vorerst eher ein Experiment als eine alltagstaugliche Lösung.

Testissä crDroid, Googlesta vapaa LineageOS-pohjainen käyttöjärjestelmä, jossa paljon customointi-asetuksia. Pienen säätämisen jälkeen prosessi lopulta onnistui, kehnoista asennusohjeista huolimatta. Nyt laite tuntuu kuin uudelta! ✌

Już myślałem, że nie mogę liczyć na nowszą wersję #LineageOS na moim #Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite niż 22.2 i zostanę z #Android 15, a tu niespodziewanie pojawiły się pliki z LOS 23.2, więc zaliczyłem upgrade do Andka 16 i na dodatek wszystko wydaje się działać \o/

The only tricky part is that GrapheneOS only supports Pixel phones while LineageOS supports a wider variety of vendors and phones but you may still need a generation or two down.
