Any Fairphone (or other non Android/iOS phone) users out there who also use Starling Bank and Halifax/Lloyds Bank? Which phone and OS are you using, please? I want to switch my phone away from Android but still need to access banking for me and Mum. Thank you. Edit because some text got missed off. #FairPhone #StarlingBank

After installing the original #murena /e/OS #eos update to 4.1.1-a16 on my #Fairphone 6, all web content is loading extremely slowly. It doesn’t matter which app I’m using – the browser, Mastodon, etc. Can anyone else confirm this? I’ve already switched off the VPN.

In case you ever wondered, the lifetime of a #Fairphone 5 battery is 16 months, apparently. 😐 I guess that's a need to repair now. Kinda disappointing. I even used their battery life enhancing options for the better half of that time. Overall, I had this impression after a couple months and it looks like it's still true what some people say: With a Fairphone, you actually do get a rather mediocre phone for the price of a good phone. I really hope it does make a positive impact elsewhere.

I wanted to figure out if a dead battery this fast might be covered by warranty. In the confirmation for the extended warranty, they claim that everything will be "very easy" when I bought directly from #Fairphone. "Very easy" involves ten things you are required to try before they even look at your case, one of which is a factory reset, followed by two days without installing apps or restoring my data. wtf. Replacing the battery is 44 bucks and a 1 min repair, but the warranty is a joke, ok.

⚠️ Don't update from /e/OS 4.0 to 4.1.1! The main reason is that @murena@mastodon.social removed #Seedvault. They replaced it with their own backup app (based on Seedvault as I've heard) that only can backup to their own cloud! The problem with this is that you now have to pay for a backup, because who has a backup below 1GB. 🤷🏻 Yes, you've heard it right, #Murena goes vendor lock-in! It's now 100% clear that it's not about a Google alternative, but about their own payed services (what is just a customized Nextcloud). There are also some other bugs, that only will be fixed in 4.2 or 4.3, but nothing about the Seedvault removal. So people can't choose their backup location anymore. Multiple people asked on their forum, but no definitive answer was given. See here: https://community.e.foundation/t/feedback-for-v4-1-1 This is not their first time they messed it up. They also removed Material You, so they force you to use blue accent colours. Hopefully someone knows how to safely migrate to #LineageOS or another reliable custom ROM for a #Fairphone 6? #eOS

Over migreren van iPhone en iWatch naar #Fairphone met e/OS en (bijvoorbeeld) een #PineTime watch. Interessant artikel dat me wat geruststelt over het naderend afscheid nemen van mijn Apple spullen. B) is a "you" problem on their part and chaining oneself to proprietary crap will be their downfall. And going with #Motorola which produces a fuckton of #EoL'd devices out of the gate and refuses to comply with @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu 's #RightToRepair is not inspiring confidence in #GrapheneOS to me. But hey, a concrete-headed & abrasive maintainer is running it into the ground… #sarcasm #commentary

@leanderlindahl@social.folkdata.se After beeing in #jolla #sailfish land for 2 weeks and had #eos #murena on #fairphone 6 for 6 months…. I prefer currently #eos mainly for those reasons (now) even when sailfish would be my choice of heart and I will reevaluate in 12 months again … Fairphone 6 with murena 4.0 0) Ux seems currently a bit better on fp6 ( productivity) 1) more often software builds (since they are Android fork) / faster updates 2) all my important apps (password mgr, banking, government) run since 6 months (… lasted 6 months to get them to work) 3) the community seems more professional and less „emotional / hardcore“ 4) nfc payment works What I really liked about sailfish: 0) Less to no ties to the google / apple universe 1) the ui seems more focused and less nagging 2) the hardware of the new Jolla phone at least for me feels much better (even if it is midrange) Bottom line: both worked well, BUT sailfish has some Android app compatibility issues still (can not set a security pin on the app / Android universe… therefore many apps refuse working), if critical apps work I give it another try.. (

Mh... Okay also ist das Thema neues Smartphone doch aktueller als gewünscht. Mit meinem huawai p20 komme ich nicht höher. Als Android 10 (Emui 12, ist schon huawai Hausmarke...) Ist wieder die Frage #fairphone mit deren OS oder #pixel 9a? Mit #grapheneos Seufz #smartphone #did #Android

Mir ist das auch ein Dorn im Auge, daher möchte ich wirklich gerne mehr über #Fairphone und #Jolla sowie #Murena hören und wenn die Hardware dafür verfügbar ist auch gerne #postmarketos Ich mache mir etwas Sorgen um den Fortbestand von #Android falls Google komplett sich zurückzieht, daher finde ich die Alternativen um so wichtiger

Veldig godt skrevet om flere av utfordringene rundt digitale "dingser" og tjenester - og vårt privatliv - våre data. Det er en forlengelse av dette som ikke tas opp i det hele tatt. Det er i hovedsak Apple og Google som samler inn mye av dataene fra vår mobile enheter. Derfor vil det også være verdifullt å vurdere alternativer to Apple iPhone (#iOS) , Samsung, LG, Google Pixel og alle de andre som bruker Google sin #Android versjon. Våg å ta skrittet til noe nytt. Ja, en #Fairphone med @e_mydata@mastodon.social pre-installert er ganske dyr. Og det er enkelte apper som kan være litt mer krøkkete til tider. Og ja, et abonnement hos @protonprivacy@mastodon.social koster fort noen kroner i året - men du får tilgang til en god del av det Google allerede tilbyr deg uten at Proton kan snoke i dine data; det er nærmest teknisk umulig. Så er virkelig tilgangen til den eller de appene så mye viktigere at de fortrolige samtalene du har i sofaen med mobilen på bordet lekkes til nettopp Google eller Apple? Det er svært deilig å bare "stikke hodet i sanden" og håpe på det beste. Men det er absolutt ingen forsikring på at ingenting vil skje. Hva hvis det skulle ruinere livet ditt i ytterste konsekvens? Er tilgjengeligheten og det "enkle komfortable livet" fortsatt å foretrekke? Mye av problemene rundt det som skjer av datalekasjer i dag kan man også på mange måter gjøre en viss form for risikovurdering av. Utfordringen er at ingen vet hvor #BigTech selskapene vil gå videre. Det eneste som er sikkert er at de vil finne nye måter å tjene penger på - nettopp dine data, enten du vil eller ikke. Våger du å ta skrittet fullt ut - så er du ikke så alene som du tror og frykter du vil være. Men du vil nok være en "ensom ambassadør" i starten i ditt eget nærmiljø.
