The e Foundation makes a free open de-Googled version of the Android operating system called /e/OS, and also sells de-Googled phones under the "Murena" brand. You can follow their video account at: ➡️ @efoundation Don't worry if it looks blank to you, that just means no one from your server follows it yet. Follow the account and its videos will start gradually showing up on your server too. You can also follow their Mastodon at @e_mydata@mastodon.social #FeaturedPeerTube #Android #DeGoogle #PeerTube

This is my current pragmatic privacy stack. I am happy with where it sits. It is mostly sovereign, some necessary compromises. Note: There is no right answer here. I am not telling you what to do. I am only sharing my experience after spending the last couple of years taking back my sovereignty. Wins: Linux was my gateway drug. CachyOS + kernel tweaks keep me in control without losing convenience. Self hosting on two homelab nodes lets me experiment freely. Proton replaced 90% of my Google dependency (Mail, Drive, Pass, Calendar), making deGoogling actually feasible. Home Assistant and Jellyfin are zero enshittification, no subs, no PLEX bloat. Unhappy Middle: Search is still a headache. DuckDuckGo feels like a fallback, not a solution. Metager is better but paying for search rubs me wrong. Web registration is sloppy right now (Porkbun/Cloudflare mix) need to audit that. DNS is mostly Quad9 out of laziness. Pi-hole or AdGuard is next on the list. And yes, Discord is back. Trying to get friends onto Matrix or Signal feels like herding cats, some bridges are too far burned to cross. Hard Acceptances: I’m not running GrapheneOS (bootloader locked on my Pixel 10 Pro XL). I accept Steam, Obsidian, and Discord as permanent fixtures. And honestly, Google Maps and YouTube aren't going anywhere either. The convenience to privacy ratio just doesn't tip the scale there. You trade purity for functionality sometimes, and that’s okay. Next: Fixing DNS, auditing registrars, and maybe finally ripping those blurays into Jellyfin properly. Privacy isn’t binary. It’s a spectrum of control we fight for each day. #Privacy #DeGoogle #DigitalSovereignty #CachyOS #HomeLab #FOSS #Proton #Jellyfin #Mastodon

Does anyone have an opinion of #HereWeGo as a mobile #map app? I can't believe something owned by a car company would be any good at cycle routing, pedestrian pathing, or public transit. I've been using a combination of #MagicEarth / Magic Lane that comes natively on /e/ OS, #CoMaps, and NS or a couple other train apps. #maps #degoogle #navigation

My sister sent me a Google link with search results about something we'd discussed. I thanked her, and then suggested using "No AI" DuckDuckGo for searches in future. Then sent her this link: https://noai.duckduckgo.com/ I know there are other search engine options but switching from google.com to this link is fairly painless. Crossing my fingers that this makes an impact and she makes the switch! 🤞 #NoAI #FuckAI #SearchEngine #DuckDuckGo #DeGoogle

🇫🇷 Cela fait quelques jours que je teste Fulguris, un navigateur web pour Android (à télécharger via F-Droid ou le play store G) et c’est plutôt convainquant : rapide et avec également un bloqueur de publicités et autres. 🇬🇧 Since a few days I'm testing Fulguris, a wzb browser for Android (to be downloaded from F-Droid or on the G-play store) and It is convincing so far : veey fast and also fitted with ad-blocker and more. #Degoogle #Browser #Navigateur #Internet

#Degoogled Photos? Yes, it's possible. ✅🏞️ The Big Tech does not need to scan & have access to your pictures & videos 👉 use a Google Photos alternative instead. Find out which open source photo storage we'd recommend: https://tuta.com/blog/google-photos-alternative  #GooglePhotos #DeGoogle

A great quote from Lee Hutchinson's Ars Technica piece, "Enough is enough - I dumped Google's worsening search for Kagi" Read the full piece here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/08/enough-is-enough-i-dumped-googles-worsening-search-for-kagi/ #Kagi #Search #deGoogle

@Tutanota@mastodon.social That’s great, but I don’t think you can really compare them like that. TutaMail and TutaCalendar are, after all, just a fraction of the others being compared. What’s more, they’re very limited in terms of features. Is this already greenwashing? But that doesn’t change the fact that you should steer clear of the cloud giants being compared. #degoogle #demicrosoft

"Free" search costs more than you think. Someone Googled her hotel, clicked a top result, and was charged $16,559 for a stay that should've cost under $5,000. Scams like these are everywhere in ad-driven search, and more people are falling for them every day. The most expensive search engine is the "free" one. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/09/travel/travel-scams-airlines-hotels.html?unlocked_article_code=1.aVA.hmRD.LzbZIcJU3rhu&smid=url-share #Kagi #Search #NoAds #deGoogle #Security

Szukam aplikacji alarmowej na iOS. Myślałem o Olalarm (https://github.com/krizzu/olalarm) lub Alarum (https://apps.apple.com/pl/app/alarum/id1557764200?l=pl) Ma ktoś doświadczenie z którąś z nich? Co sadzicie o niezawodności, prywatności i ogólnym użytkowaniu? Może macie jeszcze jakieś inne propozycje? #iOS #Prywatność #Privacy #OpenSource #Alarm #Degoogle #DeApple #FOSS #PrivacyMatters #MobileApps #FediWers

I am starting a deep tech cleanse for me and my family. The goal is to minimize dependency on large US tech. I'm intentionally not self hosting everything but looking for off-shore medium and small providers that respect privacy and don't sell data. Not looking for perfect solutions, just reasonable alternatives (thread) #privacy #degoogle

Wracając do mojego filmu z setupem degoogle / deapple – chciałbym napisać o nim coś więcej. Po wielu dniach testowania i szukania kompromisów – w końcu mam konfigurację, z którą żyję na co dzień. Staram się łączyć FOSS z realiami iOS. Nazywam to „pragmatycznym puryzmem”. Z czego korzystam: Przeglądarka daily: Quiche Browser, a jako dodatkowa Brave Wyszukiwarka: Qwant (europejska, bez śledzenia) DNS i blokowanie: NextDNS z listą HaGeZi Pro++ i kilkoma własnymi domenami (np. Facebook) Menedżer haseł: Bitwarden 2FA: 2FAS Poczta i kalendarz: Tuta Mail Aliasy e-mail: Addy.io Chmura na pliki: Filen Zdjęcia: Ente Photos Notatki: Notesnook Mapy: CoMaps (fork Organic Maps, OpenStreetMap) Pogoda: OSS Weather AI do prostych rzeczy: Duck.ai, do obliczeń i kodowania (bez danych osobowych) DeepSeek Komunikacja z rodziną: Messenger (ale zablokowałem trackery Mety przez NextDNS) Co zrobiłem w iOS: Odciąłem iCloud, usunąłem domyślne aplikacje (nie tylko schowałem), wyłączyłem Siri, Apple Intelligence, dostęp do lokalizacji dla aplikacji, śledzenie i spersonalizowane reklamy. Co myślicie? Co byście dorzucili albo zmienili? Chętnie poczytam uwagi. #degoogle #deapple #iOS #privacy #FOSS #pragmaticPurist #QuicheBrowser #Qwant #NextDNS #Hagezi #Bitwarden #Tuta #Filen #EntePhotos #OrganicMaps #NoTracking

Po odgoogleowaniu i odappleowaniu mojego telefonu czuję, że to dopiero początek drogi do cyfrowej wolności. Kolejny krok? Czas zacząć gospodarować we własnym cyfrowym ogródku. #selfhosting #homelab #degoogle #deapple #digitalsovereignty
