@Tutanota@mastodon.social I tried de-googling in the past, installing LineageOS on my smartphone, only to find out that without GoogleEngine I was not able to install my banking and other security-critical apps. Has the situation changed in the mean time, and is it possible to run common banking, health and identification apps without Google Play and GoogleEngine? #degoogle

Happy #DigitalIndependance Day to those celebrating here in Canada. The 1st Sunday of the month is when we celebrate #DeGoogle efforts or start thinking about switching personal apps to more private and/or #OpenSource options.

Here's an update of where I am in this transition. Some things to keep in mind while reviewing my choices:

  1. I'm #Retired , therefore don't have to worry about work integration.
  2. I'm lazy, therefore it's taking me longer to DeGoogle .

Recommendations request: I want to #DeGoogle (as much as I can, anyway). My two current main priorities for planning for Fall semester:

  1. Forms/Surveys for students to communicate some preferences
  2. File sharing (for notes from class)

A quality bulk QR code generator would be great also. Any help is appreciated. I could do what I want through the university LMS, but I want to have it all easily available to myself later, for copying templates and accessing my own notes with ease.

Long requested feature for our web app: upload whole folders not just single items. Now it's possible and preserves the existing folder structure and automatically creates folders/albums. The other app already did that, now the web does too. #degoogle #madeineu

I already have a pikapods.com account, which means I could run a nextcloud instance for about $7/month (to start, no idea how much it would be if I actually imported everything) and replace GMail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc. So, umm, maybe I don't need a guide, I just need willpower. The scariest thing is probably going through my password manager and figuring out EVERYWHERE I've used Login With Google and migrating those to a password. #lazyweb #degoogle #selfhosting #askfedi

Nie każdy lubi wklejać linki w Obtainium i szuka po prostu czystego interfejsu sklepu. Jeśli chcecie odejść od F-Droida bez rezygnacji z wygody, sprawdźcie Komi Store (dawniej GitHub Store). To elegancki katalog aplikacji FOSS, który pobiera pakiety APK bezpośrednio z wydań na GitHubie czy Codebergu, z pominięciem centralnych pośredników F-Droida. Zapewnia wygodne przeglądanie według kategorii, auto-aktualizacje i weryfikację podpisów deweloperów u źródła. Spędziłem trochę czasu na testowaniu Flow jako alternatywy dla PipePipe na GrapheneOS. Flow robi kapitalną robotę w kwestii UX, nowocześnie wygląda i ma wbudowany, działający w 100% lokalnie silnik rekomendacji. Jednak po kilku dniach złapałem się na tym, że i tak rzadko korzystam z podpowiadanych treści. Ostatecznie wracam do PipePipe. Z punktu widzenia mojego Threat Modelu każda funkcja, z której nie korzystam, to tylko zbędny kod i niepotrzebnie powiększona powierzchnia ataku. PipePipe daje mi dokładnie to, czego potrzebuję, czyli prosty, czysty strumień, brak reklam i wbudowany SponsorBlock. A jak to wygląda u Was? Zostajecie przy klasykach typu NewPipe/PipePipe, czy dajecie szansę nowym klientom jak Flow? #GrapheneOS #PipePipe #Flow #Privacy #OpenSource #DeGoogle #Android
