#FDroid & Basic 2.0-rc0 are live:

  • Reduce opacity of feature graphic
  • Enable certificate transparency for known domains (Both thanks to Thore Göbel)
  • Remember expanded state of app description in app details
  • Fix bug with display of chosen panic app (Full only)
  • Fix bug with DB migration when updating from older versions

I created #CastLab after coming back from holidays. I just wanted to cast my media to my TV and could not find a simple open source app for that, so I built one. It has grown since: it supports #Kodi and the open source #FCast protocol. I was even surprised to see it also used to cast music to network speakers. I will keep working on your feedback. Only on #FDroid, but it could be brought to #iOS if people are interested (through #AltStorePAL). https://f-droid.org/packages/app.fedilab.castlab

@fdroidorg@floss.social I know that's hard to define and I don't mind apps being abandoned at some point, that's how life goes when you make software. There have been tons of these even without AI slop around. What I would like to see is some official statement on #AI / LLM driven apps in #FDroid by the F-Droid council. We have had a ton of anti-ferature flags for tracking, non-libre services, ads, NSFW stuff. While big FOSS and software platforms take a stance (such as @flathub@floss.social and @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de) I find it a bit disappointing that there is nothing like this for F-Droid. I am not saying F-Droid should ban all AI/LLM supported apps but I would appreciate if you make clear where F-Droid is at because your stance on other issues has been rather clear in the past. When it comes to AI it seems more like: We don't give a shit, hell is coming for us all anyway. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Or maybe I have missed some statement on this? 👀

Yesterday, during a social ride, I talked with a guy who was working in Borland back in the days (~30 years ago). He mentioned that Open Source killed a lot of software business at that time. There are three ways to get #Fedilab beta releases:

  • The beta channel on Google Play, by opting in from the app description
  • #FDroid through our custom repo https://fdroid.fedilab.app
  • The APK attached to the release notes

PS: all these APKs are signed by me. If you have an F-Droid version, you first need to export your data in settings, remove the app (due to the signature mismatch), install, then import your previous data from the login page. Everything will be restored immediately.

Sehr praktisch im Urlaub, wenn man auf Datenstaubsauger wie Google Lens verzichten möchte: Die recht junge App "Offline Translator" ist schon verdammt gut! Text, Bilder, Dokumente - komplett offline. Keine Anfragen werden an externe Server gesendet. https://github.com/DavidVentura/offline-translator Killer Feature ist die Live Video-Übersetzung. Eben wie Google Lens, nur datenschutzfreundlich. Das gab es meines Wissens bisher nicht als freie Software in der Qualität. @dat@social.g33ky.de Do try to separate different meanings of "slop". Note that many are indeed developed with the help of some tool. But, if an app on #FDroid has content/feature issue (50% are missing?!), it's worth to raise an issue, first with the developer, then, if no progress with us.

starting to see 50+% #slop in new apps on #FDroid and it's not "there's AI mentioned in the summary" but "the app doesn't do 50% of what it's trying to do" Not a fault of @fdroidorg@floss.social, It's probably worse on play store. But this is getting problematic fast.
