🔐 LUKSbox v0.5.1 is out, and I am pretty happy with this one. 🎉 🪟 TPM 2.0 hardware keyslots now work on Windows through TBS. No driver, no admin rights. Hardware-backed unlock is finally complete across desktop: 🐧 Linux → TPM 2.0 🍎 macOS → Secure Enclave 🪟 Windows → TPM 2.0 🔒 The key stays sealed inside the chip. Copy the vault without it and it is just noise. 🌫️ Apache 2.0, open source. 👉 https://github.com/PentHertz/LUKSbox #encryption #TPM #opensource #infosec #privacy #linux #windows #macos

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca My husband and I use tuta (@Tutanota@mastodon.social) for sending encrypted email. The account also includes a calendar. I started with a free account just to test it out and then moved to the paid tier to get some more features. No affiliation with the company, just a customer. #Email #Privacy #Encryption

Anthropic’s Mythos found weaknesses in quantum resistant encryption algorithms HAWK and AES. There is no immediate risk, but this it highlights how frontier AI models are significantly increasing their capabilities to identify and exploit weaknesses in software, hardware, algorithms, processes, and people. Hey #encryption experts: has anyone thought about something similar to what three words, but for key fingerprints? This would be a huge #accessibility win. Right now, we have long hex strings we have to compare by hand, and a few visual/barcode type systems. I would love to be able to just verify "Correct Horse Battery Staple" with a friend. Easier to hear with a screen reader (b and c and d and e can sound similar in noisy environments when you're in a hurry), and of course none of the visual systems are really workable. Does the thing I want already exist somewhere? #a11y

As a sysadmin and cybersecurity professional, every single one of my devices has a duress mechanism in place. 🔒💥 Attempt a forced access or coercive search? All data gets wiped instantly, and firmware goes into lock-out. Don't think for a second I won't trigger it. If law enforcement has an issue with defensive privacy controls, tough luck. I couldn't care less. Protect against illegal search and seizure—end of story. 🛑📱 #GrapheneOS #CyberSecurity #SysAdmin #InfoSec #Privacy #DigitalRights #Encryption #FourthAmendment #TechNews

If it's possible for a user to send an unencrypted message across the wire on your "end-to-end encrypted" app, then it's not actually E2EE.

  • This means that email can't be E2EE (because a user could easily hit reply without encrypting, accidentally sending the full conversation thread in plaintext).

  • It refers to RCS texting, where, at least on Android, it will often drop down into unencrypted SMS when the RCS protocol is having trouble.

  • It's the case for Matrix even, where E2EE is a setting that can switch on or off.

In no world would we accept an application as being encrypted between client and server if it was possible for packages to get sent in plaintext occasionally. We wouldn't put up with HTPPS occasionally sending HTML forms over HTTP on accident. Why do many people feel comfortable with the same issue when applied between two users, instead of a user and a server?

If it's possible to send a plaintext message in an E2EE platform, then the platform isn't really E2EE.

Important reminder that tech solutions like #encryption, panic buttons, and duress #passwords alone are unlikely to save us from #authoritarianism. #Democracy and #HumanRights need organising and real-world resistance to be protected. https://techcrunch.com/2026/07/24/us-accuses-american-of-allegedly-wiping-his-phone-using-a-duress-password-during-border-search/

RE: https://bardicperspiration.club/@tiefling/116986688837502073 VPN and encrypted apps are good, easy way to preserve privacy. They may be not perfect, as nothing is resilient to human mistakes (like clicking links or sharing password/PIN codes), but they are good enough to protect privacy and security. It's always better to use apps like Proton VPN or Signal instead of not using them. #privacy #VPN #Signal #security #encryption

Aaaanyyways. Some privacy ppl hate VPNs, Signal, whatevs bc they're not perfect. But tbh to me? Its like... if I sleep w a boy, I know that condoms can fail and not work and expose me to like... preg and disease if they go wrong. Buuuuuuut... I'm not gonna be like "oh just do it without" bc they're not perfect (the condoms and the men both.) But tbh that's how some privacy ppl kind of see privacy tools. #privacy #rant #VPN #Signal
