For those worried about #ChatControl please don't think about talking to the geeks about all the ways it is possible to flood the scanning systems with junk. When you hope to #StopChatControl in no way consider that it could become economically unviable using old school spam techniques.

So the main fight is now on the limitations on the scanning in the long-term Regulation. The Parliament needs to stick to its very restrictve line to not allow general #chatcontrol, but only look into communications of specific suspects. Negotiations will resume after the summer recess in September. (9/X)

Update: The EU Commission has accepted the European Parliament's 2nd reading amendments on the #chatcontrol 1.0 file - the ones protecting encrypted communication. Experience shows that mandatory #DataRetention doesn't increase crime clearance rates. Targeted undercover investigations in perpetrator networks are what actually catch abusers and save kids—not indiscriminate #ChatControl on unencrypted commercial US platforms! 5/6

#Technology has lost my interest at large. I was interested in technology, because it was helping people. But today I see most of the technologies that were promised to help people, being used to merely to make money, and to help the powerful oppress the powerless. Also good technologies that help people are banned, and bad technologies that help fascists are promoted. Undemocratically also, it seems. Ps. @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu I'm looking at you and #chatcontrol .You're part of the problem.

I recently talked to somebody in the field (top 500 corp) and didn't get the sense that they could coordinate something like this. 🐍 Not shocked by #Meta or the kind of people they put in charge of their “digital experiences for kids”¹. Exactly the kind of person to entrust with social media #ageverification (calls, live videos, photographs etc.).
