According to the anonymous Linux-Is-Best account, I am a scammer and Gaza Verified (https://gaza-verified.org) which I made and help run, is a scam, and every person from Gaza we verified using video calls – all 303 of them, by last count¹ – is also a scammer.

This presents a problem because I am also a part of the Codeberg organisation as an active member with voting rights.

And the Gaza Verified source code is hosted on Codeberg: https://codeberg.org/small-web/gaza-verified.org

(We’re clearly a very transparent scam operation that believes in FOSS, etc.)

So, if Linux-Is-Best is right, you are harbouring a known scammer in your organisation. Furthermore, by allowing the source code of the scam on your site, you could be held liable if you know of the scam but do nothing about it.

So, please:

Either remove me as an active member (and give me notice so I can cancel my direct debit and have time to migrate my account and projects elsewhere), or
Take down the libellous claims by this anonymous troll who is causing real harm to people facing genocide in Gaza (and who is thus, himself, complicit in genocide).

So I’m either a scammer and I should not be allowed to be part of the Codeberg organisation or the anonymous Linux-Is-Best is a libellous, genocide-complicit troll and should not be welcome at Codeberg. Because both of these cannot be true at the same time.

I’ll leave it to you to decide who you would rather want associated with Codeberg.

It shouldn’t be a very difficult decision to make.

It seems @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de unauthenticated access is down (e.g., I couldn't git pull my public repo of my Emacs config over https without authentication). I hope it is not yet another round of DDOS or botnets that is ruining Codeberg admins' weekend. #Codeberg is an important part of today's FLOSS and it is a shame that we have had so many attacks during this past year. Stay strong Codeberg admins, we need you 🍻

“Better safe than sorry” For release 0.5.0 of #Censor, a lot of work went into improving the security of PDF redaction. PDF documents are tricky, and irrevocably removing elements from them is even more. With this release, before saving a redacted document, garbage is now properly collected and documents are sanitized, which means that metadata, page thumbnails, etc. are removed. Also, vector graphics are now removed with a more strict option when they overlap with redaction rectangles. On top of that, I added redaction of PDF annotations. The user interface was refreshed: with undo and redo buttons in the toolbar and improved document saving experience. Drawing rectangles is now indicated by a crosshair cursor. “Zoom in, zoom out, redact your points!” #Censor v0.7.0 ships improved zooming with pinch-to-zoom gesture on touchpads and touchscreens and various security bug fixes. The upstream #PyMuPDF library has some issues treating these documents. Thus, I implemented manual transformation and drawing of the redaction rectangles, and verified the proper redaction with a specially created sample document, submitted to the collection by #pypdf: https://github.com/py-pdf/sample-files/pull/36 Additionally, point- or line-like elements are now properly redacted. Sanitization during post-processing keeps now entries in form fields (note: this changes previous behavior). “Annotation censoring everywhere” #Censor, the #PDF document #redaction tool for the #GNOME desktop, got a minor update to v0.7.1. This solves an issue with annotations that could not be redacted in some files. Thanks to Julian Smith from #Artifex for fixing it upstream. In case you do not use the Flatpak package, you may need to wait for your distribution maintainers to update PyMuPDF’s version. Hindi has been added to the languages you may now speak with Censor. #Censor, the #PDF document #redaction tool for the #GNOME desktop, was released in version v0.7.3. A bug was fixed that sometimes prevented files to be saved with the “Save” menu entry or associated keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S. Censor’s #Flatpak package comes with the latest version of the upstream library #PyMuPDF (1.28.0).

Three new languages have been added to Censor since the last announcement here: Basque, Swedish, and Ukrainian. Thanks to the translators! You may contribute to translations at https://translate.codeberg.org/engage/censor

there's a really interesting correlation I've noticed, which is that the people complaining about the codeberg AI decision almost invariably demonstrate that they don't understand the concept of a member association they call a vote a 'survey', or they describe it as a choice from 'high on up', or they describe codeberg as a 'company' or 'business', or they complain that as a (regular) user they weren't asked for their opinion, or they come up with the most basic-ass 'concerns' about how it would be soooo easy to manipulate the vote because 'anyone can vote' (which is not how it works), and so on, and so forth like, there's not *literally* a 1:1 correlation between "AI bro" and "fundamentally doesn't understand democratic mechanisms and structures" but it's nor far off either #codeberg

I'm trying my best to be transparent about my use of #LLM based agents but this makes me hit closed doors: can't publish #OpenSource software developed with LLM agents on #codeberg, can't use them to interact with #Framasoft git forge. Both activities are important for me because I'm part of the #FreeSoftware movement and thus I prefer using free software based forges and contributing to free software projects. I moved the #HolosSocial projects (app, relay and discover, to stay consistent) to my own git at https://git.holos.social/tom79 As a reminder about this choice: I used an AI to write part of the #Holos docs, and also to review and help me fix some code I had written. At first I didn't feel concerned by the debate (no vibe coding on my side), but it went further than that. Out of respect for everyone using my work, transparency and action were needed. #Fedilab isn't affected and stays on #Codeberg.

For #Codeberg members: In the wake of finding my software in The Stack I'm going to raise the issue of requiring FLOSS licenses when FLOSS licenses grant access to any use-case, when I (and I suspect other devs) want to be able to use licenses that forbid AI training. The discussion is at https://codeberg.org/Codeberg-e.V./Discussion/issues/195 I don't think it's available to non-members. I want to turn it into a formal proposal and don't quite know how. I think folks should be a lot more concerned about the aggressive response towards Codeberg from AI bros, than they currently are. Not because of the disagreement, or even the "AI" itself, but because Codeberg is simply too small to critically matter to anyone's functioning or livelihood - it's a small community project! - and so the extreme intensity of the response says a lot about the true motivations and expectations of the "AI" crowd, particularly around power. #Codeberg
