The @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de FOSS Drama continues as predicted with @bizzfed@www.bizzfed.de 🍿 I predict this blog clause will be pleaded by the defendant: "Projects who have an active community that cares about and maintains the software". With my bet for the plaintiff to be pleading the "Projects written and maintained with heavy use of LLMs" clause. #bizzfed #codeberg #fossdrama #opensorce #llm #aiassisted #forgejo

@brayd@social.brayd.blog there is always #matrix but from my experience it is way heavier than xmpp. OMEMO, the XMPP E2E thing, is/was based on the Signal (Axolotl) crypto protocol and probably doesn't work worse than what Matrix gives you in that regard. Both have ample selection on servers and clients these days. Give both a try. #xmpp #omemo #axolotl #e2ee #e2e #matrix #selfhosing #decentralized #instantmessaging

Useful, reality accepting approach by @gnome@floss.social for Gnome extension developers: https://blogs.gnome.org/jrahmatzadeh/2026/07/27/ego-ai-reference/ The blog comment on using the AGENTS.md format is dead on point. Might even turn this into a skill or a non-llm based/deterministic linter or rules for an existing linter. Someone even made a Gnome extensions profiler if I remember correctly. Sure, some people will generate bad extensions still. Just like they do right now. Others might improve what exists or create better ones from the start. #gnome #llm #aiassisteddevelopment #agentsmd #claudeMd #skillsdevelopment #gnomeextensions

Looks like Flatpak discovery will move from one mostly generally accepted hub to a gazillion of repos since the performative LLM complaints have befallen the possible single hub. (Partially half-understandable arguments, partially performative fluff for my taste) Which is ok as it triggers competition that might lead to better outcomes. (bazaar vs cathedral and all, rite? 😏 ) And removes a possible single point of failure. Now what I'd like to see is an approach that does discovery of those repos and enables search across those repos without a single point of failure. As e.g. a single, centrally hosted index for repos to register to would be. Flatpak already uses a reverse-dns-namespace structure internally. Anything that would leverage that? Wouldn't help with enumeration though. Something something DHT/Gossip/...? (as the cool thing from the past) Clearly a problem that will arise with more of the expectable decentralized systems that need uniform discovery and search. What's the Fedis wisdom on current academic approaches that might be interesting around this? Or bastardized routing tech, yet another idea on how to twist DNS into a pretzel, etc? Dare I say: Blockchain (as the unpopular thing before the LLMs 🤣 ) Throw you best Arxiv posts etc. at me. I'm just curious about the state-of-the-art techn for now, all smirk and sarcasm aside. #discovery #search #decentralized #routing #dns #fedimeta #flathub #dht #cooltechfromthepast #llm #selfhosting #fossdrama #spof #singlepointoffailure

@defnull@chaos.social Common data shows, since ages, that 99,x percent of FOSS repos have virtually no users. Until some of them do. And that is more than fine. The ability to kick out resource hogs was present beforehand and was already clearly stated in their ToU. Especially around the use of their action runners. And the argument ad "large grey zone" invites exactly the type of arbitrary rule that is contrary to an efficient, predictable outcome.

Here's an interesting one around all the "no projects with the LLM taint wanted here" discussion, taking Codeberg as example: Codeberg offers to host binary releases Current (FOSS) software contains hundreds or thousands of individual works as dependencies in deep dependency trees It can be regarded as nearly certain that a substantial amount of those projects will fall under the exclusion or problematic class as per the rules above Once complied to a release binary those "tainted" works are often included in the binary and will thus be uploaded to the forge as a release. Hence, the forge will be hosting ToS violating material on behalf of the project subjecting the otherwise possibly compliant project to possible sanctions. Now what do we make of that thought experiment? And how do we resolve it? #codeberg #llm #sca #foss #compliance #fossdrama #opensource #fossdrama #drama #aiassistedcoding

@bnjbvr@tutut.delire.party @mitsuhiko@hachyderm.io I think the upside of this event is that it might lead to the growth of the forge federation model. Which is - aside of Gogs/Gitea/... original appeal as good software - in my view the actual value proposition of Forgejo. And I think one of their original propositions at the fork event. It still needs some work but would then lead to such events being a complete non-event. Everyone gets to select their ideologically aligned forge, no deduction in discoverability or search or cross-forge interaction.

@Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de I did look at some of the initiators/sponsors of the original proposal and did find one of apparent more important maintainers of @forgejo@floss.social and formerly Gitea until it turned "commercial". I wonder if this will lead to yet another fork of what started out as Gogs some probably 10 years ago now. Vibegeo? Vibeforge? Vibedistrict? (Thanks the original author of Gogs back when btw. I was already pretty amazing back when!) Certainly I will refrain from trying to propose (with PRs) a set of extensions to the issue system as said extensions and their raison d'etre have the evil taint of the LLM and hence certainly wouldn't be accepted. 🤷 #gogs #gitea #forgejo

Da hats auch weniger garstige, nicht unterstützte Radioblobs. @postmarketOS@social.treehouse.systems scheint das klar nicht als Zielmarkt zu haben. One fresh FOSS drama coming right up: https://bbhtt.in/posts/flathub-leave/ Whatever has really happened there - the review and update process of Flathub clearly is cumbersome to ineffective or at least inefficient in my view. As are some policies. Very unfortunate for such a seemingly central piece of desktop Linux app distribution. Let's hope for a better evolution over time... #fossdrama #foss #opensource #flathub #flatpak

More AI news from AMD, re-use of the better parts of their Strix Halo yield for industrial use cases. "Physical AI" aka robotics and edge use cases. Buzzword galore! 😆 Still remember when "edge" was the new buzzword Pepperidge Farm Remembers https://www.servethehome.com/amds-physical-ai-plans-come-into-focus-as-company-launches-ryzen-embedded-ai-x100/ Something I do find interesting is the claim of hard real-time assurances whilst virtualized with Xen. Technically a guaranteed deadline of 2 years is hard real-time too, just as MS-DOS is an amazing real-time OS, but I'm sure that's not what they're talking about... Any one got more info on the Xen claim? Haven't heard so much about them these days... #amd #strixhalo #ai #EmbedddedSystems #PhysicalAI #edgecomputing #robotics #xen #virtualization #realtime

So I'm tracking energy consumption. I also tracked the ACs here. The machine runs the entire day on hot days, where hot >32 degrees C. It reaches a 10-15 temperature differential to the outside. It's consumption over the year is negligible and below what the coffee machine consumes. #klimaanlage #airconditioning #qualityoflife

I know Mastodon hates LLM's and AI. So here goes! I recently got access to trusted access of cyber capabilities of both openai and anthropic, which also allows you to weaponize security vulnerabilities. The speed at which these parrots can find bugs and be creative enough to exploit them is staggering. I recently pointed an LLM at an kernel fix that was reachable by an unprivileged namespace on Debian and it fully weaponized it, without too much me prompting it in the right direction, in about 7-9 hours. I don't think open-source and companies will know what's coming for them once these open-source weight models will have broader reach and get better at exploiting vulnerabilities on a massive scale as anyone can access them. The bottom line I think is, you cannot patch faster than the attackers can easily chain all kinds of vulnerabilities together and just move laterally on an incredibly fast pace. I've started reporting vulnerabilities to all kinds of projects and the majority have trouble or patching issues found. There's not enough maintainers, or there's simply none anymore. I've been getting quite worried about what our future will look like for data privacy. I think outright not running an LLM over your codebase to find critical security vulnerabilities because of your moral stance will keep us more insecure. Please run an LLM over your code base if it's internet facing or something critical, we thank you! Can't wait for the discussions on this!

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social with all due respect: investing directly into an IPO is not for the faint of heart, hand or pocket. Especially in a stock that is strongly hype driven, likely equipped with an "interesting" valuation and that has a series of relevant unlocks coming up. IPOs often suffer from post IPO boom&slump. This thing is even still prior to the first major unlocks if I remember the table & chart correctly. Which is (among other reasons) why I held back. Time to reassess conviction and re-unterwrite. Then possibly dollar cost average or learn a lesson. Which might include a pivot to ETFs or other fields. Other than that: still an interesting company. Lets look at it after the first major unlocks are through. Probably not a 0 I'd say.

Is this more along of the way of glorified STUN/TURN or more along the way of full overlay network/overlay dictionary as in the sense of the past kademlia style DHT approaches? Is there a write-up of protocol and architecture somewhere that isn't just "read the code"?

Wie immer gilt: "We chose to do it not because it is easy, but because it is hard"

Just like with open source there is no question of if it is used anymore, but purely how it is used. And deriving from there how the use can be made most beneficial to those exposed to it.
