Well, that was about precisely as disappointing as I expected. Short version: “🤡🤡🤡” — @Pkbwood@mastodon.online Brad Bradford practiced his sound bites so very hard. He interrupted, he vibrated with his anger. Chris Alexander was very odd. Still no idea what he’s up to. His numbers will probably go up a bit. Olivia Chow was energetic but rough in her communication of her legit accomplishments. She made some decent hits on Bradford. They all dodged most questions in favour of planned mini-monologues. There is a mayoral debate put on by the Toronto Star and the Toronto Regional Board of Trade on Citytv (and also YouTube) at 6 p.m. today. Mentioning this now so you can find literally anything else to do with your time. How well someone does or what someone says in a debate has absolutely no bearing on what they will actually do in office or how well they will do it. They are completely unrelated. The real hard work is getting stuff done behind the scenes and getting everyone on board before it even gets to Council. There is relatively little debate-style back-and-forth and if there is, it does not change anyone's minds. #TOcouncil #TOpoli

Also—I think I rant about this every campaign—politicians can literally just say anything. It's like cops, they're allowed to lie (and mislead, and promise things they can't deliver, and be wrong). One of the many upsetting things about the Ford government's attack on bike lanes: Prabmeet Sarkaria is the minister of transportation. He keeps saying that the bike lanes are unused and cause congestion. He is also the first turban-wearing Sikh to be appointed to cabinet. Any casual user of Toronto's bike lanes immediately notices that the most frequent year-round uses of the bike lanes are delivery drivers, many of whom are of Punjabi origins, just like Sarkaria. If Sarkaria doesn't want to hear "downtown activists", maybe he should hear from his own community. The people who will be most harmed by the bike lane removal are the delivery drivers. When a Punjabi delivery driver is killed in a car accident because he was cycling in a car lane, his blood will be is on Sarkaria's hands. I haven't seen cycling activists trying to organize Punjabi delivery guys. Probably has to do with race and class. #TOpoli #ONpoli

Came across this crash scene. Someone hit several inches of sand at the bottom of the Runymede underpass between St. Clair and Dundas. They got injured. It was not marked with any pylons, nor cleaned up after the storm. A parking enforcement officer briefly stopped and I was shocked that they did not try to put some yellow tape or pylons. Ive seen random trees in parks encircled with yellow tape, but not here where it would have mattered. I'd like to thank the person that was warning people at the top of the underpass. I went and found some pylons strewn about and tried to block the bike lane off. City staff should be taught cycling, so they could intuitively understand and address such dangers. @evdelen@mstdn.ca The problem is that Toronto has design guidelines for new condos, that require a tall first floor of 4.5m min. This is probably to put in a loading dock for large transport trucks. 4 old small storefronts disappear and 1 large canvorous space is left in the new building. 1. It's operated by Parks and Rec, not the TTC, so to participate in Presto would require a separate operating agreement and given how bad of a deal Presto is for the city on the TTC, it'd render ferry operations so expensive as to not be operable.

2. Fake tickets are a direct product of John Tory's administration's first outsourcing of online ticket purchases to Ritual, which was a wholly corrupt transaction in and of itself. In short, the Ritual CEO would purchase standard tickets through the City of Toronto's credit card purchasing portal on his points earning AMEX, the card with among the highest fees for the merchant (City of Toronto) then just re-sell them on his app at face value. He'd pocket the points and charge the city for the privilege!
