Ontario PR supporters: here is a concrete action. If you support proportional representation and are eligible to join the Ontario Liberal Party, join through the official OLP page: https://action.ontarioliberal.ca/f/join Then contact EVERY leadership candidate. Tell them you joined and that support for PR and cross-party cooperation will influence your leadership vote. 2/3 Eric Lombardi https://ericforolp.ca team@ericlombardi.ca Dylan Marando https://votefordylan.ca info@votefordylan.ca Lee Fairclough https://leefairclough.ca info@leefairclough.ca Navdeep Bains https://navdeepbains.ca contact@navdeepbains.ca Stephanie Bowman https://stephaniebowman.ca sbowman.mpp.co@liberal.ola.org Candidate positions are still evolving. That makes now the time to push. A quiet supporter is easy to overlook. An organized bloc of new members writing every campaign is not. #ProRep #Democracy #ProportionalRepresentation #ElectoralReform #ONpoli

@evdelen@mstdn.ca The problem is that Toronto has design guidelines for new condos, that require a tall first floor of 4.5m min. This is probably to put in a loading dock for large transport trucks. 4 old small storefronts disappear and 1 large canvorous space is left in the new building. The character of the neighbourhood is lost, you end up with what happened at Yonge and Eglinton. #Toronto #Topoli #Onpoli #architecture

RE: https://hci.social/@tod/117038807871995162 Meanwhile in #Ontario, despite the swell of medical professionals seeking to relocate to #Canada, #DougFord and #SylviaJones have managed to make access to care worse while shifting care from the "evil and wasteful" public system to the "well run, efficient" private sector. Perhaps it's worth considering moving to BC intra-Canada too! #ONPoli #CDNPoli

There's a report about ticket scams from fake website selling fake Toronto ferry tickets. My question is why is the ticket system separate from the city's transit system? Why not standard Presto payments? #toronto #OnPoli

  1. It's operated by Parks and Rec, not the TTC, so to participate in Presto would require a separate operating agreement and given how bad of a deal Presto is for the city on the TTC, it'd render ferry operations so expensive as to not be operable.

  2. Fake tickets are a direct product of John Tory's administration's first outsourcing of online ticket purchases to Ritual, which was a wholly corrupt transaction in and of itself. In short, the Ritual CEO would purchase standard tickets through the City of Toronto's credit card purchasing portal on his points earning AMEX, the card with among the highest fees for the merchant (City of Toronto) then just re-sell them on his app at face value. He'd pocket the points and charge the city for the privilege!

Ontario cabinet minister Stephen Lecce (who has made bad education decisions too!) is who decided to buy new nuclear reactors for Ontario that rely on foreign fabrication and foreign-enriched fuel - leaving 🇨🇦 open to the geopolitical whims of other nations including the U.S.. i thought the entire point of the CANDU reactor design was to avoid this bullshit! https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/canada-nuclear-supply-chain-smr-darlington-uranium-enrichment-9.7289297 #EnergyPolicy #Nuclear #OnPoli

I do not know of a democratic governing administration, anywhere in the world, that has taken unilateral action in order to increase their term of office. ... Except in #Ontario. I wonder when the people of Ontario will wake up to the fact that an autocrat is sitting in the Premiers Office at Queen's Park. #ONPoli

🇨🇦 🔥 Ontario, Remember Mr Underfund Doug Ford's Priorities! 👇 This could be your community. "The Ford government left the people of Namaygoosisagagun (Collins First Nation) to fend for themselves as the flames wiped out their community. Eabametoong First Nation (Fort Hope) waited for days for their evacuation to begin,” Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler said." #Onpoli #Canada #DougFord #Indigenous #Ontario https://lfpress.com/news/ford-defends-wildfire-response-amid-criticism-from-first-nations-firefighters

People fled for their lives in boats. Public inquiry NOW. "The catastrophe has put Ontario’s wildfire response under a microscope, reviving long-standing questions about whether the province has dedicated enough staff & resources to battle these blazes," writes @jeffreybgray.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy. #OnPoli RE: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:y3xrmnwvkvsq4tqcsgwch4na/post/3mrvp5tuoz527

The Ford government is going to, behind closed doors, look at what went wrong when people could have died and *then* decide if it will be shared publicly? What in the what? That's not how it's meant to work. People had to run for their lives with almost no warning. Transparency NOW. #OnPoli

@christyceeck.bsky.social Worse, what he's describing is just the standard post-seasonal review. What he's implicitly saying is that this doesn't even warrant a special investigation of any kind, just a normal day a the office when #Ontario residents have to flee a forest fire by boat that they received no notice for. #ONPoli

Here's the thing, in a vacuum, and when dealing with a commodity, that would be a rational response: we've got fewer "medical human resources", we need to make it so they do more.

But that's a false premise.

  1. As you point out, these aren't resources, these are human beings.

  2. There continues to be an issue of government administrations that have a stake in privatization shaping this issue.

  3. I'd say most important, and lacking in the debate, this doesn't address the compositional change of medical issues between when #Canada's #Healthcare system was created vs. today.

When Healthcare was setup in the 1950's the overwhelming majority of medical issues were emergent in nature, that is to say injuries and accidents.

Today the majority of care goes to chronic issues - cancer, degenerative conditions, etc. - in which outcomes are a lot murkier than "bone broken vs. not broken", including a factor difficult to measure: quality of life.

Fundamental reforms are needed.
