Stuart Neilson (LinkedIn) points out the social hypocrisy that confronts people in their 50s & 60s: Their state pension age is receding into the late 60s, while employers seem to regard them, too often, as too old to work. Either we reverse the moves in pension age (lowering back towards the early 60s) or we move much more significantly to combat ageism in the labour market. But we cannot in good faith as a society combine a high pension age & ageism! #workers #employment #ageism

At the back end of 69, I'm still not sure which is the more isolating, the relentless, cynical ageism of the young, or the cultural infantilization and internalized ageism of my fellow seniors. Regulation of #ebikes is a #racism issue, a #classism issue, a #feminism issue, an #ageism issue, and an #ableism issue. Policing of all kinds, including motor vehicle operation, is always directed disproportionately at people of color, leading to higher rates of license revocation, suspension, citation of infractions and fines against people of color. Power assistance is not just extremely helpful for disabled people, elderly people, and women, in particular… #BikeTooter #FediBike

RE: https://mastodon.energy/@Sustainable2050/116902204170516740 This kind of ageism is encouraged by capitalism because it views humans as having worth only insofar as they're either very wealthy or being abled & youthful enough to "be good workers". Especially in countries where pensions are slim or non-existent, the years one is allowed to just exist as a person without doing a fucking job that isn't your passion are few. And younger people are conditioned to view those as something older people are not entitled to finally enjoy. "It's no loss, they had so little life in front of them". #Ableism #Ageism #Capitalism

"But those were elderly people". A large part, yes. But this isn't the way you'd like to see your mom, dad, grandma, grandpa die either.

Other Romance writers, I beg you, stop treating 30 year old protagonist like they are seniors. I just read the synopsis of a non-satirical new romance novel where the protagonist unironically goes into a retirement senior citizen community and she is only 35 years old and the text keeps calling her a senior citizen. Can we not do this? This is my one gripe and it really annoys me about the genre. Like what? #Romance #Ageism

This is some headline. "Films more likely to star an actor called Chris or a talking animal than a woman over 60, study finds." #ageism #misogyny https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/may/25/films-more-likely-to-star-an-actor-called-chris-or-a-talking-animal-than-a-woman-over-60-study-finds?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
