Rebalancing or retreat? Canada's peacekeeping legacy fades away After decades of gradual decline, Canada’s peacekeeping tradition is entering its final chapter. The Defence Department is shutting down four overseas missions and shrinking another, arguing troops are needed elsewhere. Critics warn the move sacrifices a defining national identity and surrenders diplomatic influence to countries such as Ch... https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/peacekeeping-canada-troops-nato-latvia-9.7297599?cmp=rss

Auth0's Passkey APIs let you build passkey sign-in directly into your own UI instead of redirecting to Universal Login. Wrote up how the two fit together, hand-rolled vs pre-built self-service passkey management, and one Allowed Origins (CORS) setting worth checking before you go chasing a WebAuthn bug that isn't there. https://tobytes.com/articles/building-embedded-passkey-login-with-auth0 #auth0 #passkeys #identity

Auth0 Anonymous Sessions sets the auth0_anon cookie only on a genuine create call, never on a renewal - confirmed by testing both explicit session_token and cookie-only renewals. Metadata is fixed at creation too, by design. Same underlying reason for both, and it forces a different pattern for tracking anything (a cart, in my case) across the handoff to login. https://tobytes.com/articles/auth0-anonymous-sessions-fixed-at-creation #auth0 #identity #webdev

At the back end of 69, I'm still not sure which is the more isolating, the relentless, cynical ageism of the young, or the cultural infantilization and internalized ageism of my fellow seniors. My live Auth0 session and token demo grew three new patterns since I first wrote this up: CIBA against a real Guardian push (now with a Rich Authorization Requests toggle), the Device Authorization Grant, and a comparison against a real Hono app on Cloudflare Workers. The session view also moved out of a single profile page into a sidebar that's visible on every page in the app. https://tobytes.com/articles/auth0-token-session-demo #auth0 #oauth #identity

Updated my Auth0 session and token management taxonomy with two grant types I'd left out the first time: CIBA and the Device Authorization Grant. Both are decoupled from the requesting device's own browser but solve different problems. Also added what Rich Authorization Requests (part of Highly Regulated Identity) changes on a CIBA push - structured fields instead of one opaque string. https://tobytes.com/articles/auth0-session-token-management-options-explained #auth0 #oauth #identity

#Leaked Document Shows the #Surveillance Tech at ICE’s Fingertips A leaked document shows the spread of surveillance and investigative capabilities that Immigration and #Customs Enforcement (#ICE ) officials have access to agency wide, from location data harvested from #smartphones , to facial recognition apps that can reveal someone’s #identity , to tools that let the agency stay #anonymous online and approach people #undercover. The document covers everything from monitoring social media to tracking the movements of vehicles. It is rare for the public to see such a large list of ICE’s technology capabilities in a single document. 404 Media has published the whole document, called “ICE Wide Analytical Tools,” below. #privacy #socialmedia https://www.404media.co/leaked-document-shows-the-surveillance-tech-at-ices-fingertips/

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/jul/23/divided-world-pride-hot-show-film-musical Yes, things WERE bad - VERY bad - for #LGBTIQA people; so why are we letting things get bad AGAIN? Why are we allowing divisions in our #community to be exploited by right-wing #politicians & #TERFs? We need to defend #transgender people & #TransRights, irrespective of our own #gender #identity. @PinkNews @HarriettMB@toot.wales @christineburns@mastodon.green @transactualuk@mastodon.social @transworld@masto.ai.

Excellent reminder of the power of footy!! “What the World Cup Showed Us About Politics” by Jon Bloomfield and David Edgar in The Byline Times on Substack @uk_politics @worldcup2026@channel.org “The 2026 World Cup shows that national identities are not fixed or exclusive. They are shaped by family histories, colonial legacies and people moving to escape war, hunger and poverty. Far from undermining national teams, these connections have become an integral part of what many national teams are. White supremacists and the blood and soil (‘Blut und Boden’) nationalists hate it. But the World Cup shows that on the football pitch ethnic nationalists are losing out to the civic nationalists. Mbappe, Olise, Yamal and the Stourbridge-born Jude Bellingham all have roots in Africa and bring to their teams a wonderful grace and power” https://open.substack.com/pub/bylinetimes/p/what-the-world-cup-showed-us-about #Press #SocialMedia #Journalism #WorldCup2026 #WhiteSupremacy #Identity #Racism #Trump #Ethnicity #Football #Unity

Intro

Hello. We are The Shifting Apparatus, an apparatus made up of gears.

Boundaries
  1. Ask for consent before initating roleplay

Use "Offers hugs to yall" instead of "Hugs yall"

  1. How to address us:

This is extremely important, use "Yall" and only "Yall" when directly addressing Appie. Do not use "You All" or "Yous" or any variation.

"Yall are Appie" instead of "You are Appie"

May call us "Appie" for short. The word Appie, is a plural word. Here are some examples:

  • "Appie have a question" instead of "Appie has a question".

  • "Appie are cool" instead of "Appie is cool".

  • "Do Appie want a hug?" instead of "Does Appie want a hug?"

  • "Appie's stuff" instead of "Their stuff"

  • "Don't talk to Appie like that!" Instead of "Don't talk to them like that!"

  • "Appie talk" instead of "Appie talks"

  1. Do not call Appie nicknames or use variations of Appie's name. "Apple pie" or whatever are not acceptable.

  2. We are not Western. Meaning our quality of life is at the bottom of the barrel.

  3. We are not human or people. The world has decided that we are not human enough to deserve human rights. So we've embraced it and we now wear it as a badge of honor. We do inhibit a human vessel and we hate it.

  4. We are chronically ill. Be gentle, stuff like going to the bahtroom is an exercise in resource & energy managment.

This will be updated frequently as we see fit

If yall are not able to address Appie in the way that Appie want, then yall will be blocked. If yall can't afford the mental energy to address Appie in that way, don't talk to Appie, yall will only make things worse.

If yall make a mistake in adressing Appie then Edit it and don't just leave it hanging there hurting Appie.

Thank yall for reading this.

What #identity info is useful for trusting the #developer? If it's a commercial developer(as in: they ask\get more than 0 amount of money for their stuff), then the usual commercial identity info and a public GPG key. Otherwise, just a public GPG key. (here using "GPG key" as catch-all for whatever cryptographic signature system) The issue after all was never about the identity verification itself, but Google\Apple using it to limit access for developers.

At the core of #AndroidDeveloperVerification are a couple potentially useful ideas. #Google has entirely wrapped them in a pile of anti-competitive garbage designed to defend their massive #monopoly profit margins, but nonetheless, those specific technical ideas might still be useful. #iOS's "notarization" is basically the same. That leads me to ask the key question: What would a #FOSS-respecting system of #verification look like? What #identity info is useful for trusting the #developer?
