It’s interesting - I’ve hit backlash for self publishing so much (which was inspired by Rupi Kaur) but seemed to dodge that bullet when I self published the memoir Son of Greg Girard and launched at Massy Books back in 2024, and received acclaim. There is a screen shot of a Google Knowledge Panel that propagated specifically for the memoir. A lot of my identity when shrunk gets reduced to scholar and author - usually that means author of the memoir. #DesignWriting #Memoir #CanadianAuthors #BookLaunch @vancouverwritersfestival

FF Sitting on the hardwood floors in the library nook and putting pencil to paper is one of my recent joys. With only physical books sitting beside me (no digital) I find myself in a modality where new kinds of brainstorming happen. The ideas aren’t always the best, but moving between a library space, and a MacBook / iPhone space, and an iMac recording space allows my head to think different. #DesignWriting #Memoir #CanadianAuthors #BookLaunch @ingramspark

I spent twenty years living inside Chinese culture. Not visiting. Not observing. Living inside it. I learned the language, built a life, and somewhere along the way, a dog became the thread that held it all together. The Four Seasons of Rascal is the memoir no expat has written — from the inside, through a dog. Publishing June 15 on Amazon. For readers of River Town, Hachiko, and The Art of Racing in the Rain. 📖 www.RascalTheBook.com #dogmemoir #chinamemoir #expatlife #harbin #memoirwriting #dogsofinstagram #chineseculture #booklover #comingsoon #memoir #books

When I was a child I was forced to confront my boredom. I found a pencil stub and a scrap of paper. Much to my surprise I found myself drawing something from nothing. The restriction gave me the gift. What were you told you couldn't do — and what did that refusal accidentally give you? New discussion post on Secrets, Lies, and the Family Ghost. https://emilystmarie.substack.com/p/what-were-you-told-you-couldnt-do #memoir #writing #creativity #Substack #amwriting

Sidewize features in chapter 10 of my serialized memoir. You can read it here: https://stevewetherill.substack.com/p/chapter-10-the-future-that-never-was Note for nerds: The video here is captured at 25 fps, and since the game itself runs at 50 fps, the flicker visible here is due to quantization of the multiplexed weapon rendering (player weapons/enemy weapons were rendered on alternate frames). Also, in the video, depending on which frames were dropped by the 25 fps capture, some weapons will be dropped altogether. It looks great on a real CRT with real phosphor decay characteristics! #RetroGaming #GameDev #Memoir #ZXSpectrum

Smooth and easy, Grimbergen Tripel, at the patio of debranderij.com enjoying the evening smells and sounds . Brewed in Grimbergen Abbey, Belgium. "Since 1128, the Grimbergen Abbey has been destroyed three times by fire during wars, and rebuilt by the Fathers every time over." https://www.grimbergen.com/the-story-of-the-abbey/ Tasted in Assen, the Netherlands , while reading my uncle Adriaan's memoir. #craftbeer #tripelbeer #memoir #Netherlands #Assen

#3GoodThings

  1. Reading Didion's Slouching Towards Bethlehem.

  2. In #SF for #Stanford Health Library event -- a discussion of my #memoir, #caregiving, #dementia -- that has 100 registrants.

  3. Kid & partner (the inspiration behind my #bloomscrolling) started new business. Here's a link to the 1st post @plantsculptures (I left #instagram & returned only to follow them; hope this link works!) & boost their posts. Their plant sculptures are, if I may, magnificent.
