Il Tempo: Elly confonde Lepore con Gandhi e Martin Luther King
Ricapitoliamo. Se Donald Trump convoca una manifestazione a Capitol Hill e poi l'adunata degenera in un ingresso non autorizzato in Parlamento, allora Trump è un eversore, un golpista, un figlio di buona donna, un irresponsabile (morale e politico). Se invece è il sindaco Matteo Lepore a convocare una manifestazione (senza nemmeno dare formale preavviso alle autorità preposte) e la piazzata si trasforma in un prevedibilissimo pandemonio, allora Lepore non è né un eversore, né un golpista, né un figlio di buona donna, né un irresponsabile politico, ma (Elly Schlein dixit) uno che «ha scelto di governare la frustrazione e lo smarrimento di un'intera comunità». Avete capito? Siamo davanti a un Gandhi, a un Martin Luther King.
Anzi (è sempre Elly che parla) è stato importante che Lepore l'abbia fatto per «non lasciarla in balia delle spinte più estremiste». Chiaro no? Grazie all'alto patrocinio del sindaco, i facinorosi hanno solo ferito una settantina di agenti, sfasciato sei mezzi, acceso fuochi, raccolto e lanciato pietre. Ma altrimenti avrebbero potuto fare peggio. E cosa, di grazia? Buttar giù le Due Torri e la Basilica di San Petronio?
Ora, davanti a questa sequenza di doppie verità e menzogne sistematiche, le ipotesi sono due. O (primo caso) a sinistra sono mentitori incalliti e irrecuperabili. Oppure (secondo caso) si sono abituati a giustificare i loro amici al punto da negare l'evidenza, come accadeva negli Usa ai tempi delle imprese di Black Lives Matter. Rimase leggendario un fermo immagine dell'inviato della Cnn in Wisconsin, durante furiose manifestazioni di sinistra, con sullo sfondo fuochi e immagini di guerriglia, con il surreale sottotitolo che descriveva i fatti come «mostly peaceful», prevalentemente pacifici. Forse pure a Bologna i manifestanti erano «mostly peaceful». Le pietre? Erano lanci d'amore. E i fuochi? Fiamme di passione. Daje Elly, facci sognare ancora.

Let’s recap. If Donald Trump organizes a rally at Capitol Hill and then the gathering degenerates into an unauthorized entry into Parliament, then Trump is a traitor, a coup plotter, a good-for-nothing, an irresponsible (morally and politically) person. But if it's Mayor Matteo Lepore who organizes a rally (without even giving formal prior notice to the authorities) and the stunt turns into the predictable mayhem, then Lepore isn’t a traitor, or a coup plotter, or a good-for-nothing, or an irresponsible politician, but (Elly Schlein says) someone who “chose to govern the frustration and disorientation of an entire community.” Do you understand? We're facing a Gandhi, a Martin Luther King.
Indeed (it’s always Elly speaking) it was important that Lepore did it in order “not to leave it at the mercy of the most extreme forces.” Clear enough? Thanks to the high patronage of the mayor, the rioters only injured about seventy officers, smashed six vehicles, set fires, and threw stones. But otherwise they could have done worse. And what, I ask you? Topple the Two Towers and the Basilica of San Petronio?
Now, in front of this sequence of double truths and systematic lies, there are two hypotheses. Either (first case) on the left they are incorrigible and irrecoverable liars. Or (second case) they’ve gotten used to justifying their friends to the point of denying the obvious, as happened in the US during the times of Black Lives Matter events. It became legendary a still image of the CNN correspondent in Wisconsin during furious leftist protests, with fires and guerrilla imagery in the background, with the surreal subtitle describing the facts as “mostly peaceful,” predominantly peaceful. Perhaps even in Bologna the protesters were “mostly peaceful.” The stones? They were love gestures. And the fires? Flames of passion. Come on Elly, keep us dreaming.
