Il Tempo: Emergenza sangue in Italia, ecco perché manca soprattutto gruppo 0 positivo
Roma, 5 set. (Adnkronos Salute) - E' emergenza sangue in Italia. Una "carenza diffusa", segnala il Centro nazionale sangue (Cns), sul territorio nazionale che però riguarda in particolare il gruppo 0 positivo. Le criticità maggiori si registrano nel Lazio, in Campania e Sicilia, ma non ci sono al momento Regioni con unità di sangue in eccedenza tali da permettere la compensazione interregionale".
Un allarme importante che arriva dopo l'estate, un periodo già difficile per la raccolta e quest'anno ancora più in salita per il caldo record. Il Cns ha sollecitato le strutture regionali, le federazioni e le associazioni di donatori a incrementare le donazioni e a potenziare la chiamata. L'Adnkronos è voluta scendere in campo organizzando per giovedì 10 settembre (dalle 8.30) una raccolta di sangue straordinaria aperta a tutti i cittadini, in collaborazione con Avis Roma, a piazza Mastai nel cuore di Trastevere .
Perché manca in particolare il gruppo 0 positivo? E' il gruppo sanguigno più diffuso nella popolazione e proprio per questo è quello più cercato dagli ospedali. Se non c'è una riserva accumulata prima dell'estate e adeguata alle richieste si può andare in sofferenza come sta accadendo in queste settimane. Infatti, secondo i dati del Cns sul monitoraggio dei globuli rossi: a luglio 2026 le unità prodotte sono state 194.775 (-1,1% rispetto a luglio 2025; le unità di globuli rossi trasfuse sono state 194.002 (-2,6% rispetto al 2025).
I gruppi sanguigni nel sistema AB0 sono quattro: Gruppo A, ha l'antigene A sulla superficie dei globuli rossi e anticorpi anti-B nel plasma; Gruppo B, ha l'antigene B sulla superficie dei globuli rossi e anticorpi anti-A nel plasma; Gruppo AB, ha sia gli antigeni A che B sulla superficie dei globuli rossi e nessun anticorpo anti-A o anti-B nel plasma. È considerato il 'ricevente universale' - riporta la scheda dell'Avis - Gruppo 0: non ha antigeni A o B sulla superficie dei globuli rossi ma ha entrambi gli anticorpi anti-A e anti-B nel plasma. È considerato il 'donatore universale'".
Blood emergency in Italy, here's why group O positive is particularly lacking.
Rome, September 5 (Adnkronos Salute) – There is a blood emergency in Italy. A “widespread shortage,” the National Blood Center (Cns) reports, across the national territory that particularly concerns group O positive. The main criticalities are recorded in Lazio, Campania and Sicily, but there are currently no regions with excess blood units sufficient to allow interregional compensation.
An important alarm arriving after the summer, a period already difficult for collection and even more challenging this year due to record heat. The Cns has urged regional structures, federations and donor associations to increase donations and boost calls. Adnkronos is getting involved by organizing, for Thursday, September 10 (from 8:30 am), an extraordinary blood drive open to all citizens, in collaboration with Avis Rome, at Piazza Mastai in the heart of Trastevere.
Why is group O positive particularly lacking? It is the most common blood group in the population and precisely because of this it is the one most sought after by hospitals. If there isn’t an accumulated reserve before the summer and adequate to meet demand, shortages can occur as is happening these weeks. Indeed, according to data from the Cns on red cell monitoring: in July 2026, 194,775 units were produced (-1.1% compared to July 2025; 194,002 red blood cells were transfused (-2.6% compared to 2025).
The blood groups within the AB0 system are four: Group A has the antigen A on the surface of red blood cells and anti-B antibodies in the plasma; Group B has the antigen B on the surface of red blood cells and anti-A antibodies in the plasma; Group AB has both antigens A and B on the surface of red blood cells and no anti-A or anti-B antibodies in the plasma. It is considered the ‘universal recipient’ – Avis information sheet reports; Group O: does not have antigens A or B on the surface of red blood cells but has both anti-A and anti-B antibodies in the plasma. It is considered the ‘universal donor’.”
