Self-hosting journey update, and WordPress: latest development from a super-newbie @selfhosted I must recap as I set my instance to delete 2-weeks-old posts. Months ago, I talked about my very first journey with self-hosting my digital services, including my website. As I'm not very skilled with sysadmin stuff, I use a YunoHost installation with all its pros and cons. Having severe accessibility needs (I'm totally blind) I have limited choices for what concerns CMS software with related extensions if any. So after months of exploration and test, I've come back home. To WordPress. Last time I updated Fediverse about my experience, I was struggling with multisite network giving an unpleasant error in the non-main site, such as "too_many_redirects" Making it short, I discovered that YunoHost doesn't let me run a multisite properly when installed in a subdomain such as blog.domain.tld So I had forcefully to install it in the main domain, and a subdirectory such as domain.tld/wp Now I'm concentrating on my theme, I will clone it with the plugin "CreateBlockTheme" then activate it network-wide. I need a multisite for multilingual, as all current multilingual plugins have poor accessibility support, and are mostly paid. Then I may need a new taxonomy registered to organize stories, the glossary plugin, SEO plugin, ActivityPub, and I should be all set! The last, hard, challenge I have, is the fact that now my site runs into "domain.tld/permalink-post" for Italian, and "domain.tld/english" for English The new one should run "domain.tld/wp/post" and "domain.tld/wp/english/post" YunoHost doesn't let me build a WordPress site in the root directory with multisite installed, so I must find the way to tell nginx I want the product to be physically on /wp/ but browser can point to domain.tld/post or domain.tld/english/post... And if possible, this change to be in a file on its own, in order to be able to delete it without damaging the whole nginx conf. Last detail, I'm on hostinger, kvm2 package. vps. #experience #multisite #nginx #SelfHosting #WordPress #YunoHost

#GrapheneOS phone, my own #SearXNG search engine, my own #sharkey social media site, a number of other services thanks to #YunoHost I can feel comfortable using my own stuff at least. The amount of visibility I could have into the work stuff now is uncomfortable :neocat_think_woozy:

I have a blog now! Self-hosted on #yunohost using WriteFreely. I don't have a big plan for it, will probably use it for longer text posts than Mastodon allows 🙂 https://vidrir.blog/iov6jtfbf0

So I have a weird problem with my #SelfHosted Masotdon/Glitchsoc instance: when I log in from my PC I get the ‘Something went wrong on our end’ pachyderm smashing on keyboard error. I’ve tried a clean install (of the client system), Firefox, Edge, Chrome. Client access through Ivory is unaffected as is accessing it with Safari on my iPad. I’ve tried regenerating my secrets keys. Re-running the database migration. No joy. It’s a single-user instance running with #Yunohost. #MastoAdmin

After seeing this post: https://fosstodon.org/@stpaultim/116139177428920542 I discovered #backdropcms. I looked at #drupal a while ago when #wordpress (enjoy hashtags?) was looking like it was going downhill but it seemed odd, and I couldn't say why. I hadn't heard of this one before, though it seems like it's been around for a while and has a good community around it. Bonus! I found it in my #yunohost server so going to take it for a spin.

*seufz*

Fedi friends, I owe you a quick heads-up / update: the third chapter in my self-hosting with #YunoHost tutorial is coming this week. I'm currently writing it. It's just a matter of formatting and writing an explanation for the dozens of screenshots I took while installing NextCloud 😅 I sincerely apologize for the delay but the Christmas holidays and all the travel to see family in 3 locations kept me super busy. I'll publish it on Thursday at the latest! Thank you for your patience 🙏

New post: "A newbie's guide to self-hosting with #YunoHost. Part 2: installation & setup" 🔗 : https://blog.elenarossini.com/a-newbies-guide-to-self-hosting-with-yunohost-part-2-installation-setup/ with a special shout-out to @shollyethan@fosstodon.org and @ilja@ilja.space who, a year ago, encouraged me to try self-hosting. And of course immense gratitude to the @yunohost@toot.aquilenet.fr team for making all this possible ❤️ I hope this guide may inspire others to try it, too. The path to digital independence and empowerment is easier than you thought... #selfhosting #FOSS #empowerment
