There is a person I've been helping for a while who runs two instances, one #GoToSocial and one #snac. Yesterday, they suffered severe file system corruption on their device, and I lent them a hand with the recovery. For GoToSocial, they restored the DB from the previous backup and got it running again. For snac, although a few files were lost, no action was necessary... it just started back up and did what it had to do, bringing the instance back to full operation. This goes to show that when software is well-designed and intentionally kept simple, it's also easier to get back up and running when something goes wrong. Morning fedi. I kept messing with my instance the past week, was in that geeky mood. Now my entire domain is transferred to Cloudflare including the DNS records and acting as a proxy for my instance. I tested a little more with the relay functionality too, relay.infosec.exchange is just way too sensitive to any kind of service interruption so I had to abandon it, it kept dropping my instance. I kept rel.re which seems to be reliable and added relay.toot.io . My journey in the #fediverse continues! #relay #GoToSocial #admin

Dear Fedi friends, I've been quiet lately because I am currently vacationing with family in a remote place. The relay https://relay.toot.io and indeed any Activity-Relay service that uses the up-to-date version 2.0.11, now works correctly with GoToSocial: https://github.com/yukimochi/Activity-Relay/issues/117 If anyone is still having trouble connecting to services running the Activity-Relay software, you can: Gently poke the admins of those relays to update to v2.0.11, which is the only version currently that works with GtS.Then as GtS admin you can then try removing all previously-created connections to the relay (pushes and subscriptions), and recreating them in order to re-send the Follow activity. You should receive an accept within a few seconds if all goes well. If you want posts to actually show up on the federated timeline of your instance, don't forget to either tick "match posts by default" when creating the subscription, or create appropriate relay matchers to pick which posts you want your instance to store + timeline. #GoToSocial

Relay actor stuff is coming along it's coming along! In the settings panel of the branch I'm working on, admins can now create, update, and delete relay actors (and their matchers), choose whether to manually approve follow requests, etc. Next I'm gonna add some more panels for managing follow requests, removing followers, and creating and removing blocks. #GoToSocial #Relay #Piss

I’m currently trying to migrate from my #GoToSocial instance to social.lol. The alias on social.lol is set up, and everything on the GoToSocial side should be correct, too. However, I keep running into an error that means nothing to me: "Code 422: Unprocessable Entity: error dereferencing moved_to_uri" https://codeberg.org/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/issues/4971 I’m not sure if the issue lies with GoToSocial or Mastodon—does anyone recognize this error? /cc @neatnik@social.lol Thanks! #fedihelp

DID YOU KNOW: In #GoToSocial, if you go to your account settings and change your layout to "Gram-style", you can set the web view of your profile to show an instagram-like grid of photos to visitors. This is handy for folks that primarily post photographs or other media and want to highlight that when people visit profile account on the web :) We wrote this feature quite a while ago but not that many people know about it!
