There is a person I've been helping for a while who runs two instances, one #GoToSocial and one #snac. Yesterday, they suffered severe file system corruption on their device, and I lent them a hand with the recovery. For GoToSocial, they restored the DB from the previous backup and got it running again. For snac, although a few files were lost, no action was necessary... it just started back up and did what it had to do, bringing the instance back to full operation. This goes to show that when software is well-designed and intentionally kept simple, it's also easier to get back up and running when something goes wrong. In this case, snac's "files-only" approach demonstrated excellent resilience. Thanks, @grunfink ! #snac2 #snac #ThankYouTuesday #Efficiency #IT #SysAdmin #OwnYourData

Sat down to play some games and record gameplay for my YouTube channel, but got happily distracted by all the wonderful discussions on the Fediverse about books, watches, movies, privacy and games. The Fediverse is awesome and it's because of all you awesome folks on the Fediverse! Thanks y'all. #mastodon #snac2 #fediverse #books #watches #privacy #games #youtube

snac2 + phanpy is an awesome combination! #phanpy works perfectly with #snac2 and phanpy can even be used as a PWA on iOS. Nice! If you want to give phanpy a try, I run an instance of it here. #fediverse #selfhost #selfhosted #selfhosting

hello, fedi 🙂 the other day i took some time to install #snac2 on my small server. the whole experience was a breath of fresh air, and it made me excited to participate in the #fediverse again, this time owning and controlling my own data. i just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to @grunfink@comam.es and other snac2 developers and contributors for this awesome human-made, human-scale software. i'm looking forward to trying to contribute to it in whatever small ways i can.

It's been a while since I try out ivory on snac2. It used to struggle with updates in a way that mona doesn’t, but plenty of updates on both sides since then. #snac2 #ivory

can anyone comment on how good, or not good, search (for posts) is between self-hosted fedi platform apps good for single-user servers, such as #Snac2, #Mitra, #GoToSocial, #Bonfire, etc? I am looking for search which is actually usable by someone who wishes to find things and perhaps sort what's found, unlike that provided by e.g. Mastodon, Akkoma, etc.

#snac finally sends me push notifications! Two things you can see here... It's pretty hot! That's why I stayed home and implemented a missing feature into snac. That's what you can also see - it finally sends push notifications to devices! In this case, we can see notifications coming from #MastoBlaster App for iPhone. What we can also see, it's still a bit faulty and not the expected content, but a first success here at least ;) I'll make some further adjustments when there's time and get in touch with @grunfink@comam.es to check if we can get this upstream. Thanks to @stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe for testing with me :) #fediverse #mastodon #fedi #activitypub #snac2 #c #programming #clang #MastoBlaster

Hey Fedi :3 It is my 3rd month of running #snac #snac2 instance. I wanted to share a few words about how awesome this software is. Few points that make snac icredibly good for my usecase are: No database needed - means easy migration for me No javascript - not a big fan of JS No cookies - so users are not tracked It only stores locally data about users on the local instance it doesnt download stuff from instances it federates with Extremely low resource usage Basically you compile snac you get a executable program that you can run as a deamon, you just need to point it to data directory in which all data is stored, it puts out HTTP on which web ui is visible, you can proxy it and that's all. After 3 month of posting (2 active users and 3 semi active users) my data dir is ~500MB and memory usage is ~200MB it means i can keep running it on my infrastructure without even thinking too much about load @grunfink@comam.es thanks for such a awesome piece of software 🩷🩷🩷

I've only used #snac for about half a year, and my instance takes up ~250MB of disk space and ~25MB of memory. :) I wish more modern software was like #snac2 (: CC: @grunfink@comam.es

I am really liking my own personal server. I created it earlier today. I came up with the domain because I love the Fediverse and the open web. The Fediverse gets better when more instances pop up on around the world. I created this instance on the snac2 software because I love the lightweight of the software and the minimalist aesthetic. #snac2 #MastoAdmin #Fediverse #OpenWeb

wrote a small shell script to enable cross-posting from @?t=snac2@soundhunte.rs to a telegram channel, with formatting, attachments, skipping replies etc. 50-ish lines is all it takes—oh, and a busybox call. here's the script: soundhunte.rs/k60/?doc=snac2tg.sh invoke it like this: inotifyd snac2tg /snac/user/me/public:ny
