Final week for submitting to #eurobsdcon 2026! https://2026.eurobsdcon.org/cfp/ Submit by June 20th, come to Brussels September 9-13 and mingle with #BSD people! We also offer pre-submission guidance/mentoring, see the CFP text. Wonder what BSD and the conferences are about? Having followed a tutorial, I could make #WireGuard wg-quick work on my #OpenBSD, but not without DNS query leaks, so I learned I must figure out #unbound - however, a noob like me can only seem to manage to fix configuration errors while unbound itself apparently won't start because of this (which I found out after learning there's more than one way to debug unbound - not elegant, imho): [1781449588] unbound[95585:0] error: bind: address already in use [1781449588] unbound[95585:0] fatal error: could not open ports I figured I should add my VPN interfaces to unbound.conf, but other than that I'm still clueless what else do I need to add or delete. Thanks for your patience.

After a flurry of recent commits by Claudio Jeker (claudio@), an important development milestone has been reached, mwx(4), the WIP #OpenBSD driver for Mediatek chips, can now associate and RX/TX w/ an open WiFi AP! :flan_hurrah: "This commit was done over mwx(4) with a MT7921" :flan_hacker:https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-cvs&m=178118594091085&w=2

@dfloyd888@fosstodon.org Au contraire, mon frère! #FreeBSD has a handbook that covers almost every basic config situation you'd face. #OpenBSD has man pages covering nearly everything I haven't gotten very deep into #NetBSD, but I'm sure its documentation is on point. #9front has... 9front has... 9front has some very nice people on fedi who will tell you turn back now while there's still time 😂 The documentation experience on Linux is various forum posts telling you to try various things, none of which work, and maybe some obtuse documentation text file on kernel.org. Egad.

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe @outofcreativity@exquisite.social Nice! We have played a (minor) part into getting it ready for #OpenBSD, by giving the devs access to some compute - which resulted in a commit spree that I hadn't seen before. They are incredibly kind, humble and knowledgeable.

Just thought I'd reinstall #OpenBSD 7.9 again and then switch to the latest snapshot to see if my not being able too boot /bsd past the 14th May snapshot and it now fails to verify the downloaded stuff 😂 Good thing I've still my trusty #FreeBSD laptop. Even more random redoing the sysupgrade -s and it passes straight away and upgrades. Does it boot the /bsd ? No it does not only boot.rd and boot.sp boot.

Some :freebsd: red devil and :openbsd: yellow fish are now secretly talking to each through a #WireGuard tunnel on the Internet. Glad it is not that complicated to setup and works OOTB. My notes are there: https://www.tumfatig.net/2026/connect-freebsd-to-openbsd-using-wireguard/ #FreeBSD #OpenBSD #RunBSD

Meet #Starling, a lightweight #ActivityPub server for the #Fediverse, built with PHP and SQLite. Run your own decentralized social platform on shared hosting or a tiny VPS WITHOUT Redis, PostgreSQL, or complex infrastructure. What it makes so special to me? It looks awesome, comes with a great admin web interface and does not require a VPS instance where it can also be operated on a cheap shared hosting systems. By the given requirements, it also easily runs on a #RaspberryPI and all kind of systems, including #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #Illumos and more! This all makes it perfect to everyone and even beginners to run their own instance. With relay support (e.g., fedi-relay.gyptazy.com) it even can consume and post content over non-directly connected instances in the #fediworld! Kudos to the author of Starling: @df@s.dfaria.eu More information: GitHub project: https://github.com/dfaria-eu/Starling My blog post: https://gyptazy.com/blog/starling-simple-fediverse-server/ #fedi #fediwall #opensource #decentralized #social #socialmedia #alternatives #mastodon

Installing OpenBSD on the NanoPi R2S plus Once I figured out which files to write to the SD card for the NanoPi R2S plus and in what order for #netbsd, installing #openbsd was a breeze. The second 1G network card is working—the very one that #FreeBSD doesn't recognize ;)

As I lost sponsoring (due to a whole location shutdown) for my @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe & @BoxedTux@mastodon.social in North America, I’m looking for sponsors in US and Canada. The requirements are pretty low: NO IPv4min. IPv6 /48 subnet routedNetwork (ARIN/RIPE/…) should be personalized (netname, abuse,..)Optionally: BYOIPARPA delegation for the net to my nameserversmin. 2x 500G disk space (SATA SSD or better)min. 48G memory per nodebandwidth doesn’t really matter (100Mbit is fine)Remote MGMT to systemsSponsors are being listed on #BoxyBSD and #BoxedTux on the sponsoring page and announced on LinkedIn, Fediverse and X as new sponsors. #bsd #freebsd #netbsd #openbsd #openindiana #education #learning #opensource
