You can check which version of Mastodon a server is running by going to its website and then doing the following:

On a computer, look at the bottom left corner of the website to see vX.X.X (with numbers instead of Xs).
On a phone, click ☰ in the bottom right, then click "About", then scroll to the bottom of the About page to see vX.X.X (with numbers instead of Xs).

⚠️ Spammers from a site called SocialDB.xyz seem to be flooding Mastodon members with emails claiming to offer sponsorship opportunities (which is dubious to say the least). It's probably best to just ignore these emails, report them as spam and do not click on any of their links. They seem to be getting email addresses from websites mentioned in Mastodon profiles, if the site has a public email address. The spam assumes the linked site belongs to the account owner. #SocialDB #SocialDBXYZ

However, it allows boosts to reappear if 40 other posts have passed through your main timeline, and this is why you may see the same boost repeated. There has recently been a wave of AI-generated accounts signing up pretending to be real people. Server admins are trying to ban them as quickly as they are discovered, and some servers have temporarily closed sign-ups while they deal with it. If you spot an account you think might be AI-generated, click ⋯ on one of the account's posts and select "report". Remember to give your reason for reporting, so that the admin knows what to look for. #FediTips

@bytebro@mastodonapp.uk Yeah, unfortunately the devs are having to deal with a huge number of different things with very few resources, as this is a non-profit project which deliberately doesn't have any investors, shareholders etc. So, they have to prioritise quite a lot when choosing what to work on 🙂 I guess a workaround for the moment might be using the web interface and using your browser's own bookmark system?

A short "username", which is just letters and numbers without any spaces. This is mainly used for mentioning people in posts. It cannot easily be changed.
A longer "display name" which can have letters, numbers, emoji and special characters. This is mainly intended as a human-readable name that can be easily changed whenever you want.

If you want your account to be available to people's Collections (starter packs), you need to make sure you have ticked the correct box in your settings:

Log in through your server's website
Click ⚙️ Preferences (or on mobile web click ⋯ in bottom right, then ⚙️ Preferences)
Click Privacy & Reach (or on mobile web click ⋯ in top right, then Privacy & Reach)

@lianna@micro.webgarden.click I've just been playing around with it, you can remove yourself from specific Collections even if you allow Collections in general. (EDIT: And you get a notification every time someone adds you to a Collection.) Also, if you block an account it cannot add you to a Collection at all. Accounts on servers that have been defederated by your server cannot add you either.

@lianna@micro.webgarden.click Yup, exactly! EDIT: Also, if you're allowing Collections in general but don't want to be in a particular Collection, you can remove yourself from it.
