:GoToSocial: :runbsd: This is my #GoToSocial (on #OpenBSD, on #bhyve, on #FreeBSD) instance, as seen from the garage. Doesn’t it look cute!?

A decade or so in the making, Call For Testing is offering CFT and #bhyve SWAG online using the Latvian Printful platform: https://cft.printful.me Only U.S. destinations are supported at this time but I am working with the Production User Call team to fix that via fancy API integration. ❤️

Yet another toot regarding #FreeBSD and #tvheadend with a #Hauppauge WinTV duoHD - while it is possible for me to pass the #v4l2 driver via #webcamd to the userspace and actually get DVB devices like /dev/dvb/adapter01 etc. the programs I want to use with these devices just won't work properly. Unfortunately, tvheadend or the commad line tool w_scan simply can't find any station over DVB-C. Using the same hardware that works without problems on Linux. Meh. So one solution I found is to set up a #bhyve instance on your FreeBSD desktop system runing Linux/tvheadend and then pass the #usb #dvb device through to that bhyve instance. Sounds a bit like cheating - after all I want to replace my infrastructure Linux server (serving CUPS, dnsmaq and tvheadend) with FreeBSD . But if that's the only way for FreeBSD to handle DVB-T2 devices, then it shall be that way ... (I only hope that it will work) 🤷

@BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe Returns to #FreeBSD: Migrating from #Proxmox to #Sylve (#bhyve) Some journeys don't end where you expect them to. Sometimes they bring you right back to where everything began, only with a lot more experience and a much better ecosystem waiting for you. That's exactly what is happening with BoxyBSD! In my (longer) blog post I cover my circuit, where I moved from bhyve to Proxmox, developed many tools for Proxmox and now moved back to FreeBSD with bhyve and Sylve. More details in my blog post: https://gyptazy.com/blog/boxybsd-moving-from-proxmox-to-bhyve-with-sylve/ #RUNBSD #bsd #freebsd #boxybsd #openbsd #netbsd #sylve #bhyve #opensource #vps #vpshosting #opensource #community #bsdcafe #boxybsd

Most nodes at @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe are now operated by #bhyve on #FreeBSD via #Sylve again! Thanks to @hayzam@mastodon.bsd.cafe for his incredible work by crafting #Sylve! As it’s not that easy to drain nodes to be reinstalled with FreeBSD, there’re still nodes serving VPS instances via #Proxmox / #KVM. #RUNBSD #VPS #freevps #opensource #community

New on the blog: my Home Assistant setup on FreeBSD. Home Assistant OS runs in a bhyve VM, but bhyve has no USB passthrough, so Zigbee2MQTT and Mosquitto live in a VNET jail with the ConBee II. Homematic comes in via a CCU3, and three IKEA Matter-over-Thread devices use my Nanoleaf Shapes controller as their border router. Three radio ecosystems, 474 entities, one dashboard. https://blog.hofstede.it/my-home-assistant-setup-bhyve-freebsd-jails-zigbee-homematic-and-matter-over-thread/ #FreeBSD #HomeAssistant #bhyve #Zigbee #Matter #Thread #SelfHosting

FreeBSD 15 + CDE is probably the closest you can get to sitting in front of a high-end UNIX workstation without owning a time machine. Running Common Desktop Environment in 2026 feels strangely refreshing. No blur effects, no Electron, no notifications fighting for attention, No ai written code, just Motif, terminals, man pages, and a desktop paradigm that was already mature before I was born. Current setup: • FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE • CDE • dtwm • bhyve • Motif everywhere Today’s activity: reading bhyve(4) manuals and pretending I'm a UNIX admin in 1996. #FreeBSD #BSD #CDE #Unix #Motif #bhyve #OpenSource #UnixPorn #RetroComputing #FOSS

Happy to share that #BoxyBSD remains up! Recently I got asked about my @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe project, which offers free VPS instances of vary #BSD based systems for learning and educational purposes and I'm happy to share that this projects remains available. Several things could finally be clarified to continue this service to make sure people can learn and practice on real #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD systems to #RUNBSD. Also, BoxyBSD starts moving over to #Sylve on #bhyve. But not only that! We could also get some more new resources and locations to scale and this also brings up another new project for #free Linux #VPS instances at https://boxedtux.com (Fedi: @BoxedTux@mastodon.social) where people will be able to learn and practice on different #Linux based distributions (e.g., #Debian, #Ubuntu, #Rocky,...). BoxedTux utilizes #Proxmox clusters as a foundation. Hope you like this small update... Over & out! #freeVPS #VPS #VM #Hosting #education #learning #learningplatform #service #opensource #BoxedTux
