🆕 blog! “Why don't smart watches use USB-C to recharge?” It looks like the new Google's Pixel 4 watch comes with yet another incompatible change in charging technology. This is a ridiculous situation. The original Pixel Watch used one type of wireless charging. Then the Pixel Watch 2 & 3 removed wireless charging and swapped to a different charging mechanism. And… 👀 Read more: https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2025/08/why-dont-smart-watches-use-usb-c-to-recharge/#gadget #usb-c #watch

#LazyWeb Assuming you have USB Thumb Drive that has two connection points being the 'latest' USB-A and USB-C versions connectors Is the USB-C faster? or are they the same. 🤔 #USB #ThumbDrive #Tech

If any of you guys use a JMicron JMS578 SATA 6G -> USB 3.0 Adapter (USB: 0x152d 0x0578) you may want to get some drop-in replacements as they may die after a year or so of 24/7 use...

  • Don't ask me how I found out...

Not shure how and why it died.

  • Drive behind it was fine tho...

Yet another toot regarding #FreeBSD and #tvheadend with a #Hauppauge WinTV duoHD - while it is possible for me to pass the #v4l2 driver via #webcamd to the userspace and actually get DVB devices like /dev/dvb/adapter01 etc. the programs I want to use with these devices just won't work properly. Unfortunately, tvheadend or the commad line tool w_scan simply can't find any station over DVB-C. Using the same hardware that works without problems on Linux. Meh. So one solution I found is to set up a #bhyve instance on your FreeBSD desktop system runing Linux/tvheadend and then pass the #usb #dvb device through to that bhyve instance. Sounds a bit like cheating - after all I want to replace my infrastructure Linux server (serving CUPS, dnsmaq and tvheadend) with FreeBSD . But if that's the only way for FreeBSD to handle DVB-T2 devices, then it shall be that way ... (I only hope that it will work) 🤷

Learning udev I am reading up on udev, about its purpose, history an implementation. I have read the Wikipedia article and next I’m going to read the man pages. Meanwhile, I watched this video to see what an example of what udev rules can do. I just have some questions regarding this video specifically: Following the principle of least privilege, shouldn’t I create a separate group - usb or whatever - rather than using wheel this way? Why don’t I just chmod and chown the /dev file(s) in question, if udev already provides persistent device naming (=the raw device won’t have a different designation at next disconnect-connect)? Or does the designation change perhaps?

🆕 blog! “I'm a USB-C Maximalist” My wife and I recently went on a 7 week holiday around Europe. Although we each took a massive backpack, we wanted to travel fairly lightly. I took a single universal power brick. This little unit was all I needed to charge my various gadgets. It has a hefty USB-C PD (Power Delivery) port for rapid charging of my phone and laptop. Two other USB-C… 👀 Read more: https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2026/07/im-a-usb-c-maximalist/#technology #travel #usb-c

Uczy się nas, by kupować drogie i markowe.
