#lazyWeb having just discovered that my netbook has a curved keyboard due to the spicy battery in it, I'm going to be looking for a new *light* laptop. It needs to run Linux, and be powerful enough to code on but small enough to carry easily. A native HDMI port would be nice but not essential #linux #netbook #laptops

is there a remote switchable plug that doesn't require a ton of setup, account logins, or depend on external server connectivity? it needs to do ~1500W 13A. i just want to turn on my kettle without going downstairs first. i do not use any home automation and am not interested in it. i just want to control a single plug. #lazyweb

I've usually relied on K3b for burning data and music CDs, but it's been a few years since I looked for any alternatives.

This is probably not a task that's receiving a lot of attention these days, though maybe discontent with streaming services has encouraged people to think more about it lately.

I haven't been doing much of it myself, but my daughter asked me recently to show her how to burn music CDs* and I've been poking at it again.

Does anybody have a better suggestion for making music CDs? Only open-source applications that work on Linux need apply...

  • Yes, I was very excited to show her how to do this. If I were younger and less fat, I would've done a cartwheel.

#LazyWeb Assuming you have USB Thumb Drive that has two connection points being the 'latest' USB-A and USB-C versions connectors Is the USB-C faster? or are they the same. 🤔 #USB #ThumbDrive #Tech

Hey internet. I'm looking for a webhoster to get my new website up and running. I'm using a static site generator, so no PHP, database or other shenanigans needed. Just files on a webserver (that I don't have to manage myself). I'm aware of most of the obvious options (GH pages, CF pages, GL pages, Vercel, Netlify, etc. etc.) but I'd prefer a small-ish non-VC non-AI company/org, ideally European. Any recommendations? Boosts welcome! #lazyWeb #fediAsk #askFedi

Does anyone have a favorite guide for de-googling their lives? I’ve got a personal Google workspace account and I’ve lived with the ick long enough. Time to eject and go some combination of indie, open source and self-hosted. #lazyweb #degoogle #selfhosting #askfedi

I already have a pikapods.com account, which means I could run a nextcloud instance for about $7/month (to start, no idea how much it would be if I actually imported everything) and replace GMail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc. So, umm, maybe I don't need a guide, I just need willpower. The scariest thing is probably going through my password manager and figuring out EVERYWHERE I've used Login With Google and migrating those to a password. #lazyweb #degoogle #selfhosting #askfedi

Friends, I need some help and advice. Microsoft recently announced retirement of Microsoft-provided SMS and voice authentication in Entra ID. Of course, "good", you say -- me, too. But I'm working with an organization that has some extremely non-techie employees, and I've got to figure out the easiest path to help them get properly on-boarded with Passkeys. Microsoft Authenticator seems to support Passkeys natively (the key is stored IN MS Authenticator). Is this the best way to do this? My non-techie users are primarily mobile phone users on Exchange Plan 1 (no "fat" client). Help! #passkeys #webauthn #fido #microsoft #mfa #lazyweb #help References: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/blog/2026/07/13/microsoft-entra-id-security-updates-passkeys-are-the-default-authentication-method-in-entra-id/ https://mc.merill.net/message/MC1426371

#Lazyweb. An affordable power bank with a lot of capacity and at least 4-6 USB(-C, PD) connectors so I can wire up my groove boy and a few other audio devices for a compact #dawless setup. I will solder some USB-C PD cables for the different voltages my Volcas, the EP 40 and other devices require.

#lazyweb Can anyone recommend a slop-free static site generator? Preferably in Rust or Python?

If I can't trust that the #Linux kernel won't be slop-free, looks like it's time to consider #BSD for the first time in three decades or so. Therefore, I'm going to need some input. Advice on which BSD for desktop use. Will I be screwed in terms of gaming (my laptop has a 5070) via Steam/wine/Proton? #FreeBSD :freebsd: #OpenBSD :openbsd: #NetBSD :netbsd: #BastilleBSD #UNIX #LazyWeb #LazyFedi

What's the best way to livestream from an Android phone to PeerTube? Ideally I'd like to instantly "go live" and have the link shared to my Mastodon etc. Personal recommendations of apps you've actually used preferred, thanks! #LazyWeb #Android #PeerTube #Video

#Lazyweb When I want to spin up my own #Fediverse instance that supports #Markdown when composing a post and that can handle my significant amount of followers with a seamless migration from my current #Mastodon instance, which #ActivityPub Implementation would you use? Ideally it should be a simple rootless container setup that JustWorks™ with podman. Perfection would be a single, self-contained container without the need to spin up several ones for databases or other stuff.

#DuckDuckFedi: Womit würdet ihr unter Linux einen Grundriss einer Wohnung erstellen? Gerne dann auch mit der Option, Möbel-Abmessungen an verschiedene Stellen zu packen? Irgend ne CAD Software? Inkscape? Am besten ohne Grundausbildung in technischem Zeichnen nutzbar ;) #fediversepower #lazyweb

Hey #LazyWeb, I'm looking for a browser extension that is essentially "ctrl+p for tabs". In other words, I want to be able to press a shortcut that will then search over all my tabs, maybe with a fuzzy match. Can anyone recommend one? I'm using Vivaldi, but as everything uses chrome extensions, that shouldn't matter.

I wonder if anyone I know could recommend a reliable, open source tool for posting either from an RSS feed or some other automated fashion to Mastodon, Bluesky, and any other relevant social networks... Basically, a Hootsuite or something but open source and *preferably* not a project that has jumped on the AI bandwagon. Please boost for reach if you would. Thanks! #OpenSource #LazyWeb #Socialmedia

Any tool recommendations for creating UML diagrams/adjacent. For systems/processes? Sequence, flow, state machine, use case etc. Whenever I search it’s either vendor locked subscription SaaS or some basic but usable tool that costs $800 for a license, Im happy to pay non-enterprise level amount for a good tool. (I know there’s a having cake and eating it too argument here) But wondered what options am I missing? #uml #lazyweb #designtools #diagramming #softwaredesign
