Fun fact: Despite its apparent over-abundance of options, KDE Plasma's System Settings provides NO WAY to: Enable an SSH serverEnable a grayscale "bedtime mode" like on AndroidChange the device's hostname Gnome Settings provides a way to do all of those things.

I thought KDE was supposed to be the more configurable one? Weird.

I have finally determined, once and for all, the ideal outlet orientation.

Some say "just change the electrical code." I say: Of course physical changes to plugs/outlets, and/or mandatory grounding would fix some of these issues, but good luck getting that to happen!

I will note that sometimes when people are trying to suss out an XY problem it can sound like that, but it isn't. i.e. people might say something along the lines of "Why would you want to do that?" when they really mean "What are you actually trying to accomplish?" I saw this in a group chat recently: "I found a program that requires the 32-bit package of guntls. Is it in the repository? If not, does it need to be packaged?" Somebody responded "Why would that need a 32bit GNUTLS package...?" And they answered "I'm really sorry – while I was downloading Overwatch on Battle.net, it got stuck. An AI told me it could be because of the 32‑bit gnutls. I assumed it was a widespread problem. Sorry for the trouble." Classic XY problem, but notice how the question, "Why would that need a 32bit GNUTLS package...?" could've easily been interpreted as condescending. My point is that... wording is hard, I guess 😅

Update: Good news! (kinda) If I had bought a Framework 13 Pro a week ago, I would've gotten the RAM downgraded from 32 GB to 16 GB. I now no longer have anti-buyers remorse!

#lazyweb does anyone know of a Linux distro where: Nothing is ever out of date by more than a few weeks, but things are tested so my system doesn't break.I can use a normal KDE Plasma desktop immediately upon install.It's not Solus. I use Solus. It's great, but I'M BORED. Thank you!

I think what really kills it for me are the blue outlines around everything, and the density and amount of options that are foisted upon me within a single view. I just want KDE to look like Gnome, or Gnome to be as usable as KDE. Or maybe just something in the middle... idk

Gosh I've been using KDE Plasma for a while and almost forgot just how far behind their UI design language is...

Tried out Plasma Mobile, and comparing it directly to Android doesn't do it any favors, at least in my opinion. I mean it beats Windows in terms of consistency, but even Windows manages to look nicer in most situations.

If you want to run a local model with adequate performance, the highest cost I’ve heard was $8,750 a month per user to replace ChatGPT Pro, on GPUs rented from Amazon. You might bodge something together for less. But that puts the unsubsidised price at a maximum of 40× to 45× OpenAI’s subsidised price.

I know people are mad about #Blender taking Anthropic's money (https://www.blender.org/press/anthropic-joins-the-blender-development-fund-as-corporate-patron/), but I think it's worth taking a moment to read Blender's Funding Policy which may help avoid some panic:

The Blender project sets its own strategic roadmap and yearly planning. This is done by the community of contributors together with the development and product leadership. When large donations come in, or when major organizations join the Fund, the existing planning can be accelerated or augmented, but the priorities themselves originate from the project.
