Yet another toot regarding #FreeBSD and #tvheadend with a #Hauppauge WinTV duoHD - while it is possible for me to pass the #v4l2 driver via #webcamd to the userspace and actually get DVB devices like /dev/dvb/adapter01 etc. the programs I want to use with these devices just won't work properly. Unfortunately, tvheadend or the commad line tool w_scan simply can't find any station over DVB-C. Using the same hardware that works without problems on Linux. Meh. So one solution I found is to set up a #bhyve instance on your FreeBSD desktop system runing Linux/tvheadend and then pass the #usb #dvb device through to that bhyve instance. Sounds a bit like cheating - after all I want to replace my infrastructure Linux server (serving CUPS, dnsmaq and tvheadend) with FreeBSD . But if that's the only way for FreeBSD to handle DVB-T2 devices, then it shall be that way ... (I only hope that it will work) 🤷

Replying to @HopelessDemigod@mstdn.social
@HopelessDemigod@mstdn.social just the spectrum or also useage rights? Obviously #analog TV got canned long ago to the point that there were #transparent #prison #TubeTV|s with #digital #tuners, as analog tuners were not legal in new devices anymore…Also IDK if #ATSC-T does #MUX|ing like #DVB-T but I'm shure that too has reconfigureability.Worst-Case it'll be used for some narrow/midband #Internet service (similar to #WiMax) in rural areas… #TransparentElectronics #TV
