#zigbee #HomeAssistant #domotique #canicule #sysadmin

New on the blog: my Home Assistant setup on FreeBSD. Home Assistant OS runs in a bhyve VM, but bhyve has no USB passthrough, so Zigbee2MQTT and Mosquitto live in a VNET jail with the ConBee II. Homematic comes in via a CCU3, and three IKEA Matter-over-Thread devices use my Nanoleaf Shapes controller as their border router. Three radio ecosystems, 474 entities, one dashboard. https://blog.hofstede.it/my-home-assistant-setup-bhyve-freebsd-jails-zigbee-homematic-and-matter-over-thread/ #FreeBSD #HomeAssistant #bhyve #Zigbee #Matter #Thread #SelfHosting

I've created a custom #ZHA quirk for #Buschjäger 6737 and 6737/01 #ZigBee Light Link wall transmitters. Most time I spend figuring out the correct bindings. During this I've fixed a bug in #zha_toolkit https://github.com/mdeweerd/zha-toolkit/pull/330 (which has been merged). Find my quirks and docs at https://codeberg.org/sarmbruster/custom_zha_quirks_buschjaeger #homeassistant

Anyone know of a good smart switch that basically looks like a "normal light switch" but does not need a hole in the wall and can be stuck onto of tiles? All "smart switches" (Zigbee or Dect) look like shit. And because I do not want to drill a hole into the wall/tiles I also cannot use a regular switch connected to e.g. a Sonoff or mini smart switch. (I want a switch with that satisfying click that looks like the one in the picture) Anyone an idea? #smarthone #zigbee #electronics

I like ZigBee for Home-Automation 🙂

Hardware from many different manufacturers, all compatible with each other.

  • Philips
  • Ikea
  • Sonoff
  • Xiaomi

No proprietary bridges, no cloud, no vendor lock-in. Just some free and open source software (Zigbee2MQTT / Home Assistant) and a tiny USB dongle (ConBee II) as a network coordinator.

All meshing nicely and every grid-powered device effectively extends my network's range by relaying datagrams.

I've got some little 42×42×22mm #zigbee modules that I want to install in the ceiling above light fittings. Unfortunately, they have exposed screw terminals and I can't seem to find any suitable enclosures to put them in... Not helped by the fact that absolutely no bugger seems to quote internal dimensions for enclosures. I was thinking something like one of the Wago boxes that you can post through the hole in the ceiling, but they appear to be slightly too narrow :(
