I’ve been using Windows for years—it always “just worked” for me. But in 2026, I kept hearing the same thing everywhere: Linux is faster, more private, and gives you more control. So I decided to test it myself. I switched to Linux and used it as my main OS for 30 days. The first few days felt fast and clean… but as time went on, I started noticing things weren’t as simple as Windows. Installing apps wasn’t always straightforward, and plug-and-play didn’t always work I had to set things up manually. But after a week, things started to click. The system stayed fast, no ads, no forced updates—and I actually started enjoying the experience. So… can Linux really replace Windows in 2026? I’ve shared my full experience, including what worked, what didn’t, and who should actually switch. Well this is interesting/concerning. Signal quit on me due to "not enough memory." I am using 3.92GB our of 96GB. Also, the laptop is plugged in and the OS reports it is charging, yet the battery losing charge. #ubuntu #thinkpad #linux #tech

Just went through and did a fresh VM install of Windows 11 using kvm. That Windows install process is absolutely horrible, the ads, the multiple attempts at selling me a product during install.. I felt so validated for ditching Windows years ago while running this install #winblows #kvm #vm #ubuntu #linux #windows

Feed: All Latest | Dangerous New Linux Exploit Gives Attackers Root Access to Countless Computers by Dan Goodin, Ars Technica AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. A newly disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability, dubbed CopyFail (CVE‑2026‑31431), enables a local privilege‑escalation that lets an unprivileged attacker obtain root on virtually any Linux distribution with a single, unmodified script. Released by security firm Theori after a brief private disclosure, the flaw resides in the kernel’s crypto API where an AEAD template copy operation overwrites adjacent memory, allowing the attacker to elevate privileges, break out of containers, compromise multi‑tenant systems, and hijack CI/CD pipelines. Although patches were quickly issued for several kernel versions (7.0, 6.19.12, 6.18.12, 6.12.85, 6.6.137, 6.1.170, 5.15.204, and 5.10.254), many distributions had not yet applied them, leaving countless desktops, servers, and cloud environments exposed. Experts warn that the exploit’s reliability surpasses earlier high‑profile kernel bugs like Dirty Pipe and Dirty Cow, and they urge all Linux users to verify that their systems incorporate the relevant fixes or follow vendor mitigation guidance. Yikes, forget about Linux security Copy Fail: 732 Bytes to Root on Every Major #Linux Distribution “A single 732-byte #Python script can edit a setuid binary and obtain root on essentially all Linux distributions shipped since 2017. The kernel never marks the corrupted page dirty for writeback, so the file on disk remains unchanged and ordinary on-disk checksum comparisons miss the modification.” https://bit.ly/4w1TWu3 #ubuntu

RE: https://masto.ai/@phoronix/116476120066302561 Hey @tuxedocomputers@linuxrocks.online - I expect a statement from your side that you won't include that AI shit in your #tuxedoos which AFAIK is a fork of #ubuntu ! Let's hope you do the sane thing here, so you don't lose lots of your loyal customers!

MX Linux is a fine debian derivative with a dev by the name anticapitalista on the core team. Anticapitalista runs another debian derivative antiX which they brand officially as anti-fascist. Just saying if your looking for #Debian or #Ubuntu alternatives, or distros where systemd is optional they might be worth checking out.

BREAKING: #Canonical says it's going all in on #AI in #Ubuntu #Linux -- time to look for alternatives They wrote a long post explaining their reasoning and plans. Lots and lots of words. Perhaps written by an AI. I wonder. Still AI Slop.

So I just updated Ubuntu from 24.02 to 24.04 and after restarting it will no longer boot :| Does anyone know what I can do to fix this or to at least see what's broken? Pressing escape won't get me to the bios, it just brings up this log. And after a while it just gets stuck on this black screen. #fedihelp #linux #ubuntu

@Deepseacreatur3@thicc.horse That "nvidia-gpu i2c timeout error" looks like it *should* be harmless, at least. https://forums.opensuse.org/t/nvidia-gpu-i2c-timeout-error-e0000000/142077#post_2 referring https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206653#c12 Though are you *sure* about those version numbers? 24.02 to 24.04 doesn't look like Ubuntu to me, since their release cycle is once per half year and version numbers are "year.month". Sorry I can't help you much more for now but at least that's one scary part you *should* be able to dismiss as not relevant to your problems. #Linux #Ubuntu

🙄 Ubuntu Plans Gradual AI Features Built Around Local Inference 「 In response to a question about disabling AI entirely, Seager stated that Ubuntu will not run models in the background “for the sake of it.” However, he does not expect Canonical to implement a global AI kill switch, as this would be difficult to enforce given the varied ways Ubuntu users interact with software 」 https://linuxiac.com/ubuntu-plans-gradual-ai-features-built-around-local-inference/ #ubuntu #ai #vibecoding #agenticai

Ubuntu is adding AI features this year, Canonical planning to make it a 'context aware' OS primed for agentic workflows. https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/04/ubuntu-ai-features?v1 #Ubuntu
