The #Trump admin’s latest concession about the #grants came in a #lawsuit filed by a group of #California #researchers challenging various federal agencies that have canceled #Biden era #funding. After reviewing its spending, the Trump #Energy Dept last fall created a list that recommended canceling >600 grants awarded by the Biden admin for a wide range of novel energy projects. That list included funding for projects in #states represented by both #Republicans & #Democrats. #MafiaState #law

The saga illustrates the stakes as the #Trump admin is completing a set of rules that would provide the president even GREATER CONTROL over more than $1 TRILLION in annual #federal #grants. To critics, the new #regulation would only make it easier for Trump to strike wider tranches of congressionally approved #funding over #political differences. #MafiaState #law #democracy #UNITEDStates #RussVought #Project2025 #RevengePolitics

When the #Trump admin canceled >$7.5B in #Biden-era federal #grants for #CleanEnergy projects in October, it framed the move as an urgent corrective to protect taxpayer funds from waste. But it wasn’t true. In little-noticed #court documents [linked], federal officials acknowledged this month that they had terminated the #funding “based solely” on political criteria, targeting projects in #states that were represented by #Democrats & had voted for #KamalaHarris in 2024 https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.450653/gov.uscourts.cand.450653.211.6.pdf

*Inside cybernetics, ANU-style* If this is any indication of how the ANU is run in terms of courses offered, then questions need to be asked and some full and transparant answers are required. What is it about #Universtities these days, it’s just one clusterfuck ofter another at the moment… “The School of Cybernetics is an anomaly in the higher education landscape. The course fees are advertised at $39,925, although it’s unclear how many students, past or present, have paid the full amount. It is rumoured that almost every student has been granted a generous scholarship, although an ANU spokesperson declined to provide numbers. Highly confidential documents seen by this masthead indicate that very few of the 28.2 equivalent full-time students in 2023 paid the sticker price. That year, total revenue from fees, philanthropy, and research income was just $258,000 for the entire school – or $9,000 a student. Expenses attributed to the School of Cybernetics, however, were $7 million. The documents equate that to $237,000 a student, leaving the university with $228,000 per student to be found from elsewhere to cover the cost of teaching its tiny, privileged cohort. The ANU spokeswoman declined to answer how many cybernetics students had been awarded scholarships, the value of those scholarships, or where the money to fund them came from, other than that scholarships were generally funded by “industry and general revenue”. Sack all councils and review how appointments are made. From the National Women's Law Center: Federal grants impact every area of our society. They fund essential health care, education, and housing services for those in need. They fund scientific research that improves everyone’s lives. They fund states to provide the basic services we all depend upon. Now Trump and Vought want to use these services as leverage to force everyone to accept their discriminatory policies. This proposed rule prioritizes a right-wing extremist agenda over programs that support LGBTQIA+ students, address maternal health disparities for Black women, provide services for survivors of domestic violence, expand access to reproductive health care, invest in child care and early learning, and much more. Tell your senators and representative that public funding should serve communities, not political agendas that attack gender justice and democracy.
