Tomatsäsongen har hittills inte varit den bästa. Det ojämna vädret med perioder med runt 30 grader uppåt en vecka och däremellan kalla perioder med massor med regn, har visserligen gett stora tomater, men väldigt mycket sprickor. All of the tomato plants are now producing! All but one of the tomatoes are still green, though. It's getting to be rather a tangled thicket, but I'm nervous about trimming. I think next year I'll only plant two tomatoes in the raised bed, but I might get another couple of half barrels. Not sure what else I could put in the raised bed along with the tomatoes. #garden #gardening #tomatoes

#gardening #GrowYourOwn #tomatoes Next variety to ripen are the Costoluto Fiorentino. A medium-sized ribbed, relatively early, heirloom. We eat them fresh, but use them for roasting later in the season when the later heirlooms come in.

#gardening #GrowYourOwn #tomatoes Lots of varieties of tomatoes starting to ripen now, but the next one in most quantity are the Jaune Flamme. These are yellow/orange, about twice the size of cherry tomatoes. Third year I've planted them and they are now one of my favorites for salads and eating fresh.

Baking egg shells, as one does. For most of my life I added these to holes dug for tomatoes (because Mom), but I've since learned that that has no effect at all because the calcium carbonate doesn't really dissociate in real time unless you dose it with acids. Same reason I've stopped adding them to the compost. I'm going to grind them up and offer to local birds (I don't have chickens anymore). #CalciumCarbonate #eggs #eggshells #birds #calcium #calcite #chemistry #compost #tomatoes

The first tomato! From the Grape variety. It wasn't as sweet as I expected; more tangy, I'd say. But the flavor was strong and good. The next one will be ripe tomorrow. My son will have it. #garden #gardening #tomatoes

I recently noticed that my old neighbour had a newspaper in her newspaper holder that no one had took inside for a few days. I then called her to check that everything was ok. Första "riktiga" tomaten att mogna blev en Crushed Heart. Men när en enstaka tomat mognar långt före sina sortfränder är det ofta något lurt. We have color in the garden today! One of the tomatoes on the Grape tomato plant is turning red! I trimmed off some of the lowest branches on most of the plants—none of which were bearing fruit (the branches, not the plants). I'm still a bit confused about what other branches I should be trimming, I must admit. #garden #gardening #tomatoes
