I feel like there is a mismatch in the world of dance, especially for hip-hop but I think it applies to other styles as well.
On one side, it's a race for speed. Faster, faster, faster.You have teachers teaching faster and faster choreos, you have big comps that push the fast fast, you have those intensive where it's all *faster*. You're never faster enough and when you can't as fast ... you're left behind. And in turn everything looks... the same. It's so hard to distinguish one teacher from another, they all look... fast.
And then you look at some of "those people have a name in the community for their style" kind of people and they dance... so much slower, not crawling, but the right speed, they never give the "faster, faster faster" feeling and yet they give so much more feeling.
And then I'm like... where and how this mismatch was born? Then of course, you can say I'm whining because I'm not fast enough... but at the same time, why everything must be so fast? Whatever the song, it's fast.
