CONTORTIONS Buy 1979 U.S. pressing One of the 4 artists that appear on the previously posted No New York compilation, & one of a FEW James Chance-adjacent albums I picked up today. Chance was a flamboyant saxophonist who was a very integral part of that late #70s /early #80s #nowave /#artrock scene in New York. He and The Contortions played a very #avantgarde kind of punky #funk music, with flourishes of #jazz as well. Buy was the original band’s ONLY record, coming a year AFTER that No New York compilation. Shortly after that, Chance became the star, and proceeded to have many different bands and projects over the years, including a “not at all the same” James Chance And The Contortions, which was just Chance and a bunch of other randoms. None of the post-Buy “Contortions” albums ever did much for me. THIS album is friggin great, though. Curtis Mayfield – Curtis / Live! (1971, US) Three stops on our journey through the epic Fedi-sourced catalogue of must-hear albums were schedule-posted on the blog while I was hiding away in a forest so, now that I'm back, I'll be posting the summaries for all those today. The first spotlight was on number 294 on The List, submitted by myself (buffyleigh). This is the first solo live album from Curtis Mayfield after he had left the soul/R&B vocal group The Impressions. Mayfield had been the primary songwriter for The Impressions and the 12 albums he released with them, so it's perhaps no surprise that half of the songs on this album are Impressions songs. Mayfield would go on to release ~20 more solo studio/soundtrack/live albums (including one after being paralyzed from the neck down, wtf), plus would pen albums for other artists. Warum öffentlich-rechtliche Medien? Damit Menschen sich unabhängig informieren können und Meinungsvielfalt gesichert bleibt. Dies gelingt durch journalistische, informative, unterhaltende und orientierende Inhalte, die unterschiedliche Perspektiven sichtbar machen und relevante Themen für die Gesellschaft einordnen. Wie wird funk finanziert? funk ist ein öffentlich-rechtliches Gemeinschaftsangebot von ARD und ZDF und finanziert sich durch den Rundfunkbeitrag. Hier gilt die einfache Regel: ein Haushalt – ein Beitrag. Wie viel Budget hat funk? funk hat im aktuellen Geschäftsjahr 2026 ein Budget von 45,8 Mio. €.
