PHOTOGENIX Photogenix 1983 Canada 12” E.P. @ #45rpm First spin from the pile of today’s finds goes to the shortest one. A great little 4-song #newwave #postpunk -y from Montreal’s Photogenix. This appears to be the band’s only official release. A self-produced E.P. Apparently, at the time, Montreal’s pop scene was overrun with major-label economics. So this recording garnered some attention for being so independent and sounding SO good. Great little 4-pack of songs. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #1980s #80s #80sMusic #Montreal #canada #artrock #indie #alternative

SHANGHAI DOG This Evolution 1985 Canada pressing For fans of independent Canadian rock from the #80s , this is a bit of a sought after record. I found it in a thrift store in Chilliwack about a decade ago. A killer #postpunk #newwave rock record, it’s got a political tone to it, as well as dealing with themes of social unrest and alienation, like any good #punk record should. The bass lines on this album are killer! Those come courtesy of the great Ron Allan, who along with guitarist Mike Graham, were members of the legendary Vancouver band Subhumans. This is the only record ever released by Shanghai Dog. It’s so good, it’s really all you need anyway. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #cratedigging #vinylcollection #art #music #canada #1980s #80sMusic #vancouver #shanghaidog

JAPAN Tin Drum 1981 Canada pressing While I was at my local shop this morning, a gentleman came in to sell about 30 of his records. I ended up buying ALMOST all of them. Along with the No New York compilation I posted earlier, it was all made up of #obscure #nowave , #punk , #postpunk , #newwave , #synthpop , and #experimental #artrock from the late #70s and early #80s . This was one that I was very excited about. I’ve never owned a CLEAN original Tin Drum on vinyl before, and I’m SIKED. I’m a big fan of Japan (and of David Sylvian) in general, and Tim Drum was the first album by Japan I ever heard. I was so mystified by it, that I instantly set off on finding others, which lead me to working backwards towards Adolescent Sex, Obscure Alternatives, Quiet Life and Gentlemen Take Polaroids. “Ghosts” is an incredible tune. It still gives me goosebumps. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #cratedigging #vinylcollection #art #music

THE NIGHTINGALES In The Good Old Country Way 1986 UK pressing A bonafide classic for a Saturday night. The Nightingales final album of their original run; one that mixes #postpunk , #folk , #artrock and incredibly unique arrangements. A lot of people regularly refer to this as their greatest artistic achievement, which we can debate, but I’ll tell you what… it’s DEFINITELY Robert Lloyd’s best lyrical tour-de-force. A sharp, witty, dry and sarcastic lyrical masterclass on his part. This album doesn’t get anywhere near the universal acclaim as it deserves. People who know KNOW. However, they didn’t get the same flowers as Gang Of Four, Wire, The Fall…. ANY of those bands. And they fucking should have. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #cratedigging #vinylcollection #vinylfinds #rare #art #1980s #80s #80sMusic #punk #NIghtingales

Released today 46 years ago: 🇬🇧 Joy Division "Closer" – 1980 Released just two months after Ian Curtis’ death, Closer stands as JDs final studio album and one of the most profound statements in post-punk history. CHEER-ACCIDENT Sever Roots Tree Dies 1988 U.S. pressing A super-cool find at the end of a loooong-ass day. I had no idea what this was. Just bought it on a whim after about 2 seconds of research. What a wonderfully weird #80s album. I’ll try my best to explain this… An #experimental trio that mixes #prog rock, #postpunk , #avantgarde improvisation, occasional #artpop , and CRAZY ass dynamics that duck and weave in and out of soft/quiet & roundhouses to the head. Think latter-day King Crimson having a baby with the punkest, weirdest girl from your graduating class. This is an exciting record, and I can tell I’m going to have to listen to it several times to have it reveal itself to me in full. Just a killer record, and a very pleasant surprise. Now I have something to obsess over these next few weeks. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #cratedigging #vinylcollection #vinylfinds #rare #art #punk #artrock #1980s #80sMusic

Released today 43 years ago: 🇬🇧 Bauhaus "Burning from the Inside" – 1983 With Murphy absent from parts of the recording due to illness, Ash, David J, and Haskins take on expanded creative roles, giving the album a distinctive character and a broader musical palette. The result is a collection that balances dark intensity with moments of surprising warmth and experimentation... #bauhaus #gothicrock #postpunk #artrock #alternativerock #vinyl #music #nowspinningonvinyl #nowspinning #nowlistening

Punk rock always sought to call out social ills – 55 years ago today Young troublemakers flee from the British Army in Derry on July 8, 1971, during the conflict in Northern Ireland. 📸 Don McCullin In 1980, the band Killing Joke used this photo as the cover for their debut album. #punkrock #postpunk #killingjoke #punkrockhistory
