Good day, all you wonderful mastodon people! My name is Arthur Flenyo, and I'm self-proclaimed electronic musician & time-traveler (which is a part of my lore). I'm refugee from commercialized internet, & I feel like communication there is heavily commodified (just like in real life most of the time, tbh). On this page I plan to post my feedback, critique and thoughts on other underground artists, so, feel free to reach out and share your stuff! In real life I work in a marketing field, + video-editing and so on, literally brainwashing human brains with advertisement, manipulating to make them buy some stupid stuff. Then I feel guilty, try to fix it all. That's why I'm making art (music/stories) that's supposed to help recover your brains and nurture creativity. If I were free, I'd only make this art, but yeah, I have to survive, too. In terms of music I usually work in such genres as #IDM or #Ambient. I think the big problem of today's electronic music is that it's too abstract, and exists most of the time in the escapistic form. Which is okay, but what I want my art to do is to try to implement current stage electronic music to express real life, just develop that aspect, too. That's why I use "fusion of music & literature" genre. 'Tho I like experimenting a lot, too, not just implementing. And, just in case, my site in profile. Advertising myself... Anyways, here I am... #Introduction #Art #Experimental #Anticommercial #ElectronicMusic

Hi All - yesterday I put out some promo codes on #mirlo for my new tracks. It's not clear how to redeem these so I have asked for help on this and hopefully it will be resolved shortly. Can I also add that there is a bug in the system which means if you try and buy a track from me it often says "dollars" for the price when it should be "Sek". This means items can look 10x more expensive than they are - it does however, revert to Sek in the payment. So please be aware of this - my tracks on #mirlo are always in Sek! @ambientmusic@a.gup.pe @ExperimentalMusic@fedigroups.social @electronicmusic@fedigroups.social #electronicmusic #ambientmusic #experimentalmusic

Week 1 of WeeklyBeats. This week is straight ahead dance music, about 30 bpm faster than 99% of the music I make. Which still makes it pretty chill for house or techno, heh. And I recorded my cat purring. I lay out in the description what I was trying to do - overall what I'm trying for with this challenge is, after 30 years of releasing music as Jet Jaguar, make music that isn't bound by what I think I'm supposed to be doing. #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #ElectronicMusic https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/purring-pouring

Week 2 of WeeklyBeats. Even more upbeat dance music this time, kind of breaks. The concept this week was to imagine a future Michaels band with me on beats a la Mouse On Mars and a friend with the same name doing vocals a la Mark E Smith, inspired by their album as Von Südenfed. In this hypothetical the music is for a club PA, not for home listening, so I worked on it being punchy, simple and energetic. For week 3 I plan to go in a really different direction, away from having any fixed tempo or master clock. #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #ElectronicMusic https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/future-michaels

Week 4 of WeeklyBeats, free to listen to and download if you like.

I’m trying to explore new things (for me) each week, this time I:

  1. used synthetic sounds (no recording or sampling - until I forgot at the end, oops),
  2. only use a step sequencer (Stepwise, like an old school drum machine interface, but in my software of choice #bitwig ), instead of either playing or writing notes in like sheet music, and
  3. once again keep it relatively upbeat, compared to my usual sub-100bpm slow motion…

Although it kicks off all polymetric and a bit spiky, it settles into something more dance-y quickly.

Week 5 of WeeklyBeats, free to listen to and download if you like.

I’m trying to explore new things (for me) each week, this time I:

  1. made and jammed with a live looper,
  2. played ukulele (a bit)
  3. made it dubby to pay respects to Sly Dunbar, RIP

That opening sound is a ukulele chord, perhaps unbelievably.

Week 6 of WeeklyBeats, here’s an uptempo dance track with growly bass and blippy percussion. Plenty of process notes on my blog. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/the-borzoi-in-the-bubble #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #ElectronicMusic

Week 7 of WeeklyBeats, here’s a 5/4 dub (?) track. Plenty of process notes on my blog, I try not to be #Bitwig specific. This week was a slog. What am I doing this for? etc. https://nonwrestler.com/weeklybeats-2026-7-click-through-rates/ #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #ElectronicMusic

Week 9 of WeeklyBeats, here's a murky, icy-cold techno track. Lots of process notes on my blog, mostly not #Bitwig specific. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/slaw #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #Techno #ElectronicMusic

Week 10 of WeeklyBeats, here's a shuffly downtempo groove that reminds me some of Afrobeat and a little of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters. Free to listen to and/or download. Plenty of process notes on my blog as usual, if you make music yourself and want to know what I did. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/make-haste-2 #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic #Beats

Weeks 11 and 12 of WeeklyBeats - I guess I forgot to share last week? 'Crossworld Puzzles' and 'The National Apple Congress of 1883' are I guess both different angles on noisy (not in the sense of aggro) downbeat grooves. These last 3 have been the most "beats" beats so far. If you want to hear what I can do in just a couple of hours each, give them a listen? https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/crossworld-puzzles https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/the-national-apple-congress-of-1883-2 #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic #Beats

Week 16 of WeeklyBeats, 'On Kilter'. This track changes tempo every 4 bars all the way through, based on repitching a loop like it was on a piece of tape - to get to a new chord, you have to slow down or speed up. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/on-kilter #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic #Beats

Week 17 of WeeklyBeats, 'Pigeonhole'. What's not me this week? Fast (155bpm), hard beats (imo😅), almost no melodic or harmonic stuff. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/pigeonhole #WeeklyBeats2026 #Musodon #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic #Beats

I've kept up the WeeklyBeats, just haven't been spamming yous every week. Somehow we're up to week 20 of 2026! Controls (Modular World Anniversary Show performance [from the archives, 9 May 2021]). Originally performed and recorded for the Modular World 1st anniversary show (8-9 May 2021) which was a massive livestream event of 33+ hrs during the pandemic lockdowns. During the lockdown years, Modular World became one example of a fairly niche thing gathering people together worldwide to make experimental art online - when it was not possible to organize the usual small local performances - to create something positive and reach more people than they ever could individually. As the pandemic finally, thankfully, subsided, however, it seems that people went back to the enclosed local communities, and these types of global online communities lost their drive.  Also the rapidly accelerating #enshittification cycle of the past few years has buried the visibility of these kinds of communities from all major social media platforms. Of course, as Cory Doctorow ( @pluralistic@mamot.fr ) has been pointing out for years, the enshittification of these platforms started much earlier. But somehow amid the pandemic, this niche scene still seemed to flourish, and it was only after Silicon Valley lined up to kiss the ring that the aggressive changes to the algorithms really seemed to change things.  Maybe this is correlation more than causation, but as activity at such niche scenes is often also created by fairly principled DIY-oriented people, it seems that many (myself included) have struggled with justifying why we keep feeding these platforms. This disillusionment is further exacerbated by the rise of the AI-slopmachine that will rip off all the non-commercial work from these platforms just like everything else. Online activity that gathers enough momentum to actually keep things active has in these types of niche scenes been very much dependent on instagram and youtube. Over the past few years, the visibility of this type on stuff that doesn’t try to optimise for the alorithm has plummeted.  Perhaps all of this has resulted in events such as the Modular World shows reaching fewer and fewer people. As wonderful as the promise of #Fediverse is, so far it seems that we’re very far from reaching the critical mass where it would actually start reaching new people. If the utopian enclave remains enclosed, it eventually dwindles away. But we can try! I’m posting these weird little Johannes Karkia mini music videos and performances here bit by bit. It’s a transfer of archive, posted on insta & youtube over th years, and also new work now & then.  But also Modular World does still exist! Go check out their channel: https://www.youtube.com/live/07ErB3AjlAo?is=qr9q2pXlhWm7Hie2 (Full performance of this piece, and interview with MW’s Johno Wells there on the Modular World youtube channel and on the Johannes Karkia youtube channel [link in the bio above], audio track also on Bandcamp). #modularsynth #modularworld #anniversary #liveshow #electronicmusic #modulartechno #covid19 #pandemic #darkwave #eurorackmodular #Community #surveillancecapitalism #enshittification #platformcapitalism #algorithm #bigtech #siliconvalley #KissTheRing #enshittification #socialmedia #utopianenclave #utopianism #fediverse
