And look what the midnight canvas has brought us. I had every intention in redesigning this one for a more stylized iteration, but when I tell you this just flowed through and I’m so pleased with the beauty this character wears. portal magic me, s’il vous plait 🙂‍↕️ The next iteration of this is to experiment with the effect of whatever the portal is made of—I’m not sure yet, but I’m leaning towards an energetic liquid as the base. Happy #PortfolioDay ! My name is Corey Johnston, and I’m an artist living in Eureka, CA. #PortfolioDay is back! Here are a couple recent pieces I’ve completed. I’m a northern California artist living along the Redwood Coast, and my most popular work right now features birds. I also do Art Nouveau-styled fairytale pieces, and stylized local flora & fauna. I do everything by hand using Procreate on my iPad, then I print everything out on my own high-end 12-color gicleé printer. I do greeting cards and limited edition prints. Today I painted some garlic for a friend whom I vend with at local fairs and festivals.She makes roasted garlic spreads and flavored olive oils. She suggested a garlic greeting card (of course she did!! Ha!), and I made one today. I like it, and I think it will go nicely with my cherry tomatoes card. Today I share a Pigeon. This was a joke suggestion from a person seeking one in vendor booth. But I did it anyway! Ha! They’re all over downtown Eureka, CA. And while they’re hardly regionally specific (I mean, they’re found almost all over the world), these specific little birds call Humboldt County home, and that’s enough for me. Oy it has been a day already. Ready to go back to bed and try a do-over. Ugh. But in lieu of that, perhaps I’ll just share a pretty bird I made. It’s a Pileated Woodpecker, which are pretty common here in North America. They’re a powerful bird—they can peck at a rate of 20-25x per second! Wth a force upward of 1200x the force of gravity! Crazy!! I don’t have any around my home, lately, so I think it’s probably safe to at least take a nap. Haha!
