Week 31 of #WeeklyBeats This week's is really different to what I usually do, process-wise, because it is a single-take live jam on a synth that doesn't have a keyboard or play fixed pitches, really, Lorre Mill's Double Knot 3. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/in-different-registers #Musodon #ElectronicMusic

Week 30 of #WeeklyBeats I feel like ‘Our Beloved Piss + Gary’ deserves an explanation, I can only offer this photo I took in a Melbourne bar about a year ago. For those using #Bitwig this started with exploring the new beta Sampler feature that munges an entire sample on to one detected pitch. I’m applying that to a grubby old recording of bass guitar and was excited by how it went wrong. 😅 https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/cosy-attitude #Musodon #ElectronicMusic

I decided to buy this audio plugin Aava today which is the fanciest kind of convolution "reverb", where you can throw in 4 different sounds (impulse responses) and blend your input signal through all of them. Plus you can change the size / pitch of the impulse responses in real time without the whole thing falling silent, which is something I've not seen any other convolution tool handle. I was pretty much sold by that audio demo "Turn your drums into a bassline" on the page below, but having a 30-day trial is great too. https://viiri-audio.com/ #Musodon #MusicProduction #LinuxAudio

Lovely #review of "Electron Rock" Gosuta said: "An amazing homage to the 70s electro and dance scene, yet with a distinctively contemporary feel. Elegant, no overproduction, no in-your-face 70s synth patches just for the sake of it. Highly recommended." https://solarphasing.bandcamp.com/album/electron-rock #music #fedimusic #musodon #mastomusic #electronicmusic #electro #electronica #ambient #idm #techno #experimental #downtempo #sciencefiction #synthetizer #synth #spacemusic #art #culture #bandcamp @electronicmusic@fedigroups.social

Week 29 of #WeeklyBeats My main aims for doing something unlike usual this week were a chopped and screwed hip-hop beat. Slushy. I wrote my own groove, about 95bpm, then bounced and resampled that, pitching it down -5 semitones which from memory is about the drop in speed and pitch from a 45 record being played at 33 1/3. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/cosy-attitude #Musodon #ElectronicMusic #Bitwig

Week 27 of #WeeklyBeats “Jhol Momo” is a kind of generative thing: I tried to build a little system that spits out notes in a musical way and then work with the results. Gentle piano and a wiggly mono synth in conversation. I resent that “generative AI” has kind of poisoned the well when talking about generative anything, but I am talking more like what you could do with tape loops, but software, than like prompting an LLM. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/jhol-momo-3 #Musodon #ElectronicMusic #Bitwig

Week 28 of #WeeklyBeats “Y” is auditory slug gurgling, experimenting with a lot of spectral stuff and taking inspiration from Topdown Dialectic / False Aralia. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/y #Musodon #ElectronicMusic #Bitwig

Fellow #FediMusician people, I am looking to engage with some old school forums devoted to music making, but I have been long out of the loop on them. Do you have any suggestions for forums for me to check out? #Musodon #FediMusic #FediMusicians

Week 21 of #WeeklyBeats - "No Notes" is a pun on trying to write a piece of music with only noise / percussion. Of course there end up being pitches in there, but it was fun to do. It's almost entirely #FieldRecordings but arranged into rhythmic patterns, which I talk about in the process notes on my blog. https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/no-notes #Musodon #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic #Beats

Week 22 of #WeeklyBeats "Blotch" is sort of sludgey house (?), my attempt to recreate a sound I have in my head where things sound pitched down and dark (as opposed to bright, not as opposed to cheerful). https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/blotch #Musodon #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic #Beats #techno

Week 23 of #WeeklyBeats "Moraic" is me trying to steer away from a genre exercise and instead make music that uses a bunch of very typically me techniques, but just about 30-40bpm faster than the range I normally work at. I also chose to write in C major, which is pretty unusual for me. Blogging about my process I realised how often I set up modulation that alters the shape or character of sounds (or even pitches, in the case of using an arpeggiator) and for example having an LFO that runs for 11/16ths in one case and another that is 31 dotted 8ths or something. Just looping patterns that, especially when heard in context, feel either random or evolving. Not sure if I'm describing that! clearly https://weeklybeats.com/jetjaguar/music/moraic-2 #Musodon #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic

Week 24 of #WeeklyBeats

"Trash Hand" is more of a formal experiment than usual:

  • one sound source
  • more silence
  • no filters.

Basically just looping one chord, modifying the shape of the synth each time, and putting a small number of delay fx on each individual note.

Week 25 of #WeeklyBeats

"Secondary Modern" is repeating the same aims as last week, while doing something different:

  • one sound source
  • more silence
  • no filters.

Holy polymetric marimba parts, Batman! What is this, Steve Reich?
