@translucent@mastodon.online @audiointerface@mastodon.social @CCirco@ravenation.club I'll also note that because the shows go out as downloadable podcasts, we take the time to get explicit permission from the artists before we allow people to essentially download their music for free. This takes time, and the thing that accelerates the process the most is if people submit music to the show directly, as that takes care of permission up front.

In the interim, I've been hosting episodes of Disturbing Dreams on a roughly monthly cadence (currently working. on the next episode), and @CCirco@ravenation.club has been posting episodes of Transverse Tempo, although I believe he had to take a break this month.

Man I get worked up over stuff like this. #OctaviaButler is one of my favorite writers, and the thought of reading more of her work is tantalizing, but:

She didn't want it published. I can't love her work and not respect her as a person, that feels wrong.

Sure, she might have changed her mind if she was still with us now, but she's not here to do that, so respecting her original wish feels like the right call.

I'm not demanding that you shouldn't read it, but I don't think I will.

The artifact is evidence of their work, yes, but it also joins us together, evidence of our shared humanity as we are both looking in the same direction for a time, drawn toward something that has enchanted us both. And I think this is a sharpened reason why AI "art" is not art. It is that skip from ideation to end product that literally leaves the art out of the picture. 3/

Seeing so many beautiful paintings and sculptures in person was a powerful experience, and I think I have figured out (partly) why. I was standing there, pondering an object, an artifact, that was also pondered (intensely!) by van Gogh, or Rodan, or Picasso. Created for the express purpose of exactly this. We are both united in that moment, across space and time, in our mutual focus on this artifact that cost the artist days, weeks, sometimes years to produce. 2/

I feel like spending time at MoMA and the Guggenheim recently has sharpened some of my thoughts on art and AI, and especially whether AI generated images are art or not.

I've generally said that we make a mistake when we confuse the final artifact for the art, that the artifact is the /evidence/ of the art. The work of creation is the actual art. To skip from ideation to a final product is to eliminate art from the equation. You are left with... just a product.

I'm not much of a capital-A-Art connoisseur, but I've always sort of vaguely thought of Picasso as pretentious. I'm unsure where that opinion originated (probably osmosis), but spending two days around his work has completely dissuaded me of the notion.

"Girl With a Mandolin" might be one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen, and that the same person painted "Le Moulin de la Galette" is just stunning.

May all of our art grow and change from beauty to beauty in its own way.

@steve @etherdiver does weekly reviews of independant music and is an all-around great resource for finding new stuff. @ordosmarkzero has a couple of long-running threads of music finds https://theindiebeat.fm is 24/7 live music across several different channels. They also have TIBtv now! @audiointerface has several ongoing shows with mixes of different genres The #bonkwave crew are a great source of fun, weird music and are a good connection point to other music resources around here.

@potterybyosa Yep, I get that. Me and mine are doing our best to do the same in our adopted state now, too. Thank you for loving and defending FL, I grew up in NE and central FL and there's so much about it that I miss. Summers on the Ichetucknee, midnight drives out to the beach, gopher tortoises, spanish moss, herons, even the gators. I miss it all. Getting to see bits and pieces of it through your posts is always a treat. The love you have for it always comes through.
