A universal basic income is a practical system that separates basic economic security from the threat of poverty. Fusion's Citizens Dividend would launch at the Henderson Poverty Line, replacing complex welfare with a single automatic payment to every Australian. No means tests, no withdrawal cliffs, no caseworkers deciding if you are deserving enough. Later indexation is tied to GDP, so as the country grows, everyone shares in that growth. Supplementary supports for disability, housing, and care remain on top. This creates real freedom: the ability to say no to bad jobs, to retrain, to care for family, to start something new without losing your floor. It also strengthens bargaining power, because workers are not choosing between a pay cut and homelessness. The evidence from trials and modelling is clear: it cuts poverty, simplifies administration, and does not cause large-scale labour withdrawal when designed with an integrated tax system. We can afford it by ending fossil fuel subsidies, closing corporate tax loopholes, and taxing resource wealth properly. A Post-Work Futre only works with Basic Income. AI develops faster then most people think. The complexity of tasks that can be completed by AI doubles every 3 to 7 month. More than 50% of work is not paid at all - mostly in household and care. This work receives no financial compensation. While women already earn 12% less than men when it comes to paid labor, if unpaid labor is factored in, the real pay gap widens dramatically: women earn 45% less than men.
