I scour news sites for good news, then write them up, design my zine, print it out, and send copies to my subscribers, a month ago. I signed up for a black-market time-travel tour as soon as I heard about them. (The first rule of Time Club etc.) There’s an hour long pre-mission briefing on how you must be extremely careful in what you say or do as the smallest event could have future-changing consequences. After that, they give you back your money, admit that there is no time machine, and tell you “now go and do the smallest thing you can to make the future better”. In einer Parallelwelt ist Deutschland dank kluger Politik nach China die Nummer 2 im Export von Solarpanels und unbestritten die Nummer 1 auf dem Weltmarkt für Wärmepumpen und Geothermie. Der Rest der Welt staunt wie wir es geschafft haben unser Stromnetz zu dezentralisieren und dank hocheffektiver Generatoren wieder tausende kleine Wasserkraftwerke haben. Das Förderprogramm "Batterie statt Öltank" war dafür elementar wichtig. Haushaltsstrom gibt es mittlerweile als Flatrate. #MicroFiction

“My god!” She exclaimed. “What is it?” He asked. “There’s no time to explain.” She jumped up and from her desk in the operations room and ran to the metal locker in the corner. She flung it open to reveal a full-bore shotgun, which she grabbed, along with as many shells as she could fit in her hands and jeans pockets. “Veronica?! What are you doing!!” He screamed, now standing as well. But it was too late. She had already charged through the door and had headed on to the datacenter floor. He walked out onto the balcony to see what was going on. He was treated to only the briefest listen to the familiar white noise hum of the servers and equipment racks, before the tranquility was shattered by the unmistakable carnage of several shot gun shells being fired towards the hardware. He ducked for cover. It must’ve only been a couple of seconds, but it felt like an eternity as she laid waste to the computers that until just a few minutes ago she had been peacefully monitoring. The shooting subsided, he felt comfortable enough to stand up once again. Dust, bits of servers, smoke and other debris filled the air. She slowly walked back up the stairs, now covered in a dirty layer of the various materials, and holding a still smoking shotgun. “What the hell was that about?!” He asked. “The AI,” she said. “It started podcasting.” #microfiction

I wheeled the toolbox into the driveway, opened the bonnet of the car and left a packet of tim tams, a five litre bottle of fresh oil and a new filter on top of the engine. Then I went inside. I mean, I know how to change my own oil, but it’s been a cold week and the pixies will appreciate the chocolate. Rather than demolish it, the city council (and I won’t say it didn’t take some extensive lobbying bordering on bribery) decided to open up the enormous disused tram depot as municipal allotments. Local tower block residents can apply to reserve their own portion of workshop or switchyard to maintain and use. The two men fought. Blood streaked across the face of the agent, who was having to fight to see what his target was doing, let alone win the fistfight. Finally, his training paid off, and he got enough purchase to slip the suspect into a headlock, get him on the ground, and shove his service weapon firmly into the side of the now breatheless mans head. "Who do you work for?" The agent screamed. The man, despite his obvious peril, forced a smile. "It's complicated." He said. "Oh, don't be a smart ass, just tell me who sent you!" *Crunch* ❖SNAP❖. Well, now we know what happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object. Whatever goddessforsaken alloy this part was made from just broke my last solid carbide round nose bit. Fuckity fuck with fuck sprinkles on top. Only one thing left to try; I put on all the safety gear—all of it—and open the diamond-glass tube containing my newest cutter. Degenerate dark matter mined from a captured interstellar comet. Doesn’t /cut/ so much as stimulate the weak nuclear interaction to decay the metal atoms. Not fast, but reportedly indomitable.
