I'm happy to announce our work has been accepted at ESORICS 2026, going to be held at Rome, Italy in September later this year! "A Systematic Look at Quality-of-Service Feature Effects on Side Channels in AMD SEV-SNP" In our work, we show that AMD CPUs' Quality of Service features introduce and amplify side channels, especially concerning in the confidential computing / trusted execution paradigm of computing. We show that a malicious hypervisor can use allocation and monitoring features to leak and amplify what's going on in an AMD SEV-SNP confidential VM. The hypervisor can mount keystroke detection attacks, website fingerprinting attacks, Bleichenbacher attacks on RSA, and covert channels. We reported our findings to AMD, who said that "side channels are not in their threat model for SEV-SNP"... 🙂. Two years ago an H100 was almost impossible to rent. Now cloud H100s list near $4 per GPU-hour, and used hardware has fallen just as hard. So which is cheaper, renting or owning? It comes down to utilization. A used 8-GPU H100 server can pay for itself in about 8 months at full load, but not for years if it sits at 30%. Today, we're proud to unveil AWS Crabcake AWS Crabcake is a fully managed lateral-movement compute substrate that provisions workloads across multiple availability zones using proprietary sideways-scaling architecture, automatically redistributing traffic in unexpected directions when you least expect it. Unlike traditional services that scale vertically or horizontally, Crabcake scales diagonally into adjacent AWS accounts, which your billing team will discover during the monthly reconciliation process; data transfer between shells is charged at $0.09 per GB, and cross-account diagonal egress is billed per pinch with a minimum of 10,000 pinches per request. Sandstorm integrates natively with IAM, where permissions are evaluated per grain, and with CloudWatch, which will alert you after the sand has already reached your eyes.
