#software #hardware #Cifrado #phone #seguridad #telefonos

Just tried to reboot my Pixel 6 into #Android 16, and…the #phone is stone-cold dead. Black screen, no response to buttons, power+volume doesn't work. This is not acceptable! When a PC operating system gets bricked, you can still boot into BIOS, enable booting from USB, and use a rescue/installer USB stick to repair or reinstall the OS. Can we please have #phones that are similarly fail-safe? Not this unreliable nonsense? Thanks. 😡

…Federal prosecutors in Atlanta are bringing an #obstruction charge against a #US citizen who gave customs officers what is known as a #duress passcode, which activated software that erased the contents of his #phone. The authorities stopped Samuel Tunick, an Atlanta resident, for interrogation at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Int’l Airport as he returned to the US Jan 24 last year, acc/to a Nov grand jury indictment. The authorities seized his phone before allowing him to enter the country. #law

RE: https://social.growyourown.services/@FediFollows/116970521760021938 The level of pedantry in the replies is unreal. I know the Linux/FOSS crowd can be pedantic, but come on. The Linux phone category is about phones running standard Linux systems, not Android/AOSP derivatives. What makes a Linux phone: Package managers (apt, pacman, apk)Standard GNU/Linux tooling without Android wrappersFOSS interfaces like Phosh or Plasma MobileNo Google/Apple app ecosystem dependency Actual options: @pine64 (PinePhone) - hardware made for Linux@volla - ships with Ubuntu Touch optionUsed Android phones repurposed with @postmarketOS or @mobian The honest tradeoff: These won't match Android/iOS for battery, call reliability, or app availability. The modem is still proprietary blob territory regardless. But the category matters because it is about what you can run and who controls it, not kernel semantics. If someone needs a daily driver and doesn't trust Google/Apple: repurposed Pixel with postmarketOS, or accept Android with hardened privacy settings. If they want to tinker/support the ecosystem: PinePhone. Both are valid depending on whether you need a phone that works or a phone you own. #Linux #Phone #FOSS

The #FourthCircuit Says #Border Agents Can #Search Your #Phone By Hand, No Suspicion Required The Fourth Circuit issued a disappointing opinion in U.S. v. Belmonte Cardozo, a case in which @eff@mastodon.social filed an amicus brief, alongside the national #ACLU, its #Maryland , #NorthCarolina , #SouthCarolina , and #Virginia affiliates, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (#NACDL ). We argued that electronic device searches at the border should require a #warrant based on probable cause, but at minimum, regardless of whether an officer searches by hand or with #forensic software that plugs into a device and downloads its entire contents for search, the same #FourthAmendment standard should apply to all device searches at the border. #privacy https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/07/fourth-circuit-says-border-agents-can-search-your-phone-hand-no-suspicion-required

Just because I had the occasion to use one - here is the list of Australian phone numbers that you can use in documentation that are reserved and won't go anywhere. (like the USian 555 numbers) https://se.au/notes/fake-phone-numbers-in-australia/ #phone

This week, I gave a presentation to a board that mandates that all phones stay outside the room. Apparently, two meetings ago someone butt dialed Gemini which then tried to answer a rhetorical question with some AI nonsense. At least I now understand why highschools do the same. #AI #phone #board

Apple: you should update your phone for security reasons! It's important! Also Apple: "More Storage Required - This update cannot be installed because it requires at least 23,96 GB of available storage during installation." My phone only has 64 GB. 26 GB of that is currently used for the OS and whatever system data is. So that leaves 14 GB for everything else.. 💩 #phone #apple

😬 uh, oh. I don't think this is supposed to be ok. There is a very thin clear plastic strip around the outer edge of my phone 📱 and the past couple days it's been peeling off in several inch long strips. #phone #tech
