"We're verifying that you are a human".
How degrading is this sentence? It's CloudFlare's warning and it often happens you must complete a challenge. In this case a flag to check, in other cases it even gets worse - a captcha based on senses. Hearing and vision. And if you're impaired, you're simply screwed.
It's more and more frequent due to the very high percentage of bots navigating the web, automated systems percentage has overcome humans and it's an evident statistic. We can't deny this.
But I must share this fear: humans just click on the flag or overcome the challenge without even being aware of what the real meaning of "tell me you are a human" is.
It can even cause internalized ableism. Humans with disabilities normalizing the fact to have mandatory certification of being humans.

Chromium and their particular fork have much better exploit hardening via sandboxing.
My understanding is Firefox has better anti-fingerprinting and uBlock origin via manifest v2 support (or v2 features ported to v3).
The argument often used is malicious ads. Sandboxing and hardening largely mitigates ads that contain exploits, but it doesn’t protect against social engineering, crypto mining, tracking, etc.
So I guess it comes down to your threat model and desired experience.
I personally prefer the uBlock origin experience, but an ad free experience and escape from targeted advertising was my target opsec when venturing into privacy.

@kaia@pleroma.soykaf.com It sort of exists. But it's cluttered with a lot of waste and malicious #web sites and obstructed by search engines that don't surface the stuff that I'd like to find with them.
In creating this alternative internet (call it #SmallWeb or whatever) we also have to take care of making it findable.
Creating blogrolls and directories, using inline links and link lists as much as possible, sharing OPML files and posting about interesting or important pages is good. But it doesn't help very much in the scenario where someone is using a search engine that seems to almost entirely ignore those indicators of valuable content.
So for me the main question currently is: How do we (/I) support alternative #SearchEngines? Or do we have to make us stop using them like we have to abstain from using #BigTech products?
