Since @media aural and @media speech are deprecated in CSS since at least Media Queries level 4:

What is the current preferred way to detect (preferably in CSS) when a user is using text-to-speech output so that document elements that have no relevance or can’t be rendered aurally can be hidden/skipped?

I’ve looked through the MQ4 media features list and don’t see anything relevant; but surely I can’t be the only one who wants to do this?

Figuring things out always feels good. 🙂 The desktop version of my Jekyll-powered blog now displays footnotes on mouse hover using plain ol' HTML and CSS. No JS necessary! The existing footnote functionality is unchanged for people who prefer reading footnotes at the bottom of the page. #IndieWeb #PersonalWeb #HTML #CSS #NoJavaScript

Our laptop overheated and shut down multiple times while we were trying to log into https://blahaj.zone , that page's CSS is waaaay to expensive, we think it could be the blur and the moving timeline. Plus, our laptop is a potato, but geez! We had to solve captchas at record speeds to avoid it turning of again #sharkey, #misskey, #css, #javascript, #lowend @reilyhs_microblog_mirror@piefed.blahaj.zone

TIL the CSS contrast-color() is a focus for 2026 Interop, so it should be accessible (ahem) soon. This function, which works in Firefox and the latest Safari will automatically calculate the appropriate foreground colour when given a background colour to achieve a WCAG ‘AA’ rating. No more having to do it manually! More info: https://modern-css.com/readable-text-without-manual-contrast-checks/ #css #webdev

After basically a decade I am again designing a web from scratch. HTML structure, CSS presentation, images, ... Man, I forgot most of the syntax and patterns, and building it up again feels like going uphill. Last time I *knew* #CSS, flexbox support was about 50:50, animations were getting started, you used Sass for variables, and :has was a dream.

I have updated the background pattern of my #PersonalWebsite with more icons reflecting hobbies, videogames and more stuff I'm into! Decided to make a bit of a grid this time, I think the pattern looks great at about this size heh, although if you zoom out it gets very noticeable :P #Inkscape #Art #Background #CSS #VectorArt #Arcticons

@saaste@mementomori.social Kiitos tästä! Mä olisin ehdottanut vanhempaa keinoa: otsikoiden yläpuolella olevan tyhjän tilan tekemistä marginaalin sijasta paddingilla, mutta siinä olisi se huono puoli, että toisin kuin marginaalit, peräkkäisten elementtien paddingit eivät mene toistensa päälle. #css

Not a new effect, but this time powered by CSS anchor positioning. ✨ https://codepen.io/mrwillcom/pen/EayJeEG #css #webdev #codepen #animation

Here's an update to my home page. Social media links are no longer boring! The cards expand and float when you hover over them, offering a brief preview of the information you need. Try it live at https://mrwillcom.com/ By the way, the animation is all in CSS. No motion libraries were used. #webdev #design #ux #animation #css
