After a discomforting restless sleepless night of pain, the old man drags his breathless lifeless corpse out of a sunken bed of jagged shards of thorny rocky glass and steel, unable to yet see or function as the classical music plays he scrapes his rigamortis laden corpse across the floor to prepare his coffee, as his hands shake and tremble he pours in the water and counts the scoops of grind, then after fumbling he manages to plug in the percolator and as the coffee begins to perc he shuffles off to the toilet, in a hungerous ragging fit his bowels bellow out, staring blankly into the abyss his reflection in the mirror shows his disheveled hair and beard to tired to care he stumbles back to his bed, he struggles to pull on his pants socks and shoes, he pours a cup of coffee then gently packs scraps of tobacco into his pipe, he steps out the door, the pre-dawn sky is dark as dark can be the air humid and hot like walking into a bread oven, as the world barely spins it is clear not a single soul cares for the horrish existence the old man is forced to endure yet another wretched day; You can encourage my continued useless #poetry, creativity and expression of self, #commentary, random thoughts, #philosophy and ideas, and by doing so your helping to feed, house and clothe a #disabled man living in #poverty, $5-10-15 It All Helps, via #cashapp at $woctxphotog or via #paypal at paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=…

Давайте проведём мысленный эксперимент. Представьте стадион, полный зрителей, и певца, выступающего перед ними. Артист получает солидный гонорар за это выступление. Кроме того, весь стадион ему аплодирует. Артист счастлив. А теперь точно такая же ситуация - певец выступает на переполненном стадионе, получает за это выступление точно такой же солидный гонорар, но только с одной разницей - публика никак не реагирует на его выступление. Молчит. Просто безучастно сидит и занимается своими делами. Счастлив ли артист в этот момент? Нет, ему очень неуютно на сцене, ему хочется, чтобы эта пытка быстрее закончилась. Понимаете, к чему я веду? Да, именно - деньги вообще не главное в жизни человека. Конечно, хорошо, когда вы живёте комфортно, а не на грани выживания, но для того, чтобы ощущать себя реально счастливым, нужно чувствовать, что вы нужны окружающим. Что ваш труд для них важен. И эта мотивация намного сильнее и важнее, чем просто деньги. И теперь попробуйте смоделировать ситуацию, когда у человека очень много денег, но его все вокруг реально ненавидят. За скупость, алчность, паршивый характер - не важно. Просто на дух не переносят. И что там у него с ощущением счастья и радости? Как вы думаете? Reason #3,429 I'm not popular at parties: I have issues with things like this. Science isn't "real" (The Might Be Giants kinda lost me with that song a decade or two ago). Science is an explanatory framework or a particular kind of investigation process, not the results of those. More importantly (to me), science doesn't actually deal in "reality." It can never establish what's real or not. To be fair, we probably don't have any system of knowledge that can, unless you believe in religious or other mystical systems that are usually defined as being unverifiable by the methods science uses (e.g., public replication on demand, etc.). Science gives potential explanations for phenomena, along with (usually) methods of testing the extent to which those explanations match empirical observations. But reality never appears. Many people (including me, most of the time) believe that there is a "reality" that might potentially be described by scientific theories, hopefully with increasing accuracy, but even that is difficult or impossible to really establish--as far as I know, science can't prove that reality exists or that science is interacting with it if it does. Even empirical observations are mired in the "is there even a reality to describe" problem. The issue gets thorny and very unsatisfying, according to the philosophers I've read (the ones I can understand, but mostly other people summarizing their ideas). #Science isn't "real." It's the explanatory system with the best track record so far of matching predictions to observations, by a long shot. This is a #soapbox I get on from time to time. Honestly, I think the "science is real" messaging is unhelpful. It's magical thinking packaged as rationality. #empiricism #evidence #philosophy #popper #petpeeve #sciencecommunication
