Someone mentioned in passing during a meeting in work today that "going passwordless is inevitable" and that using biometrics and facial scanning to sign in to accounts will be necessary. I work in the data protection office (the GDPR kind), so I'm begging please someone tell me this is not true.. 😩 #GDPR #DataProtection #biometrics #InfoSec

The UK Information Commissioner's Office has failed for too long. Enforcement action has fallen away under its 'public sector approach', where the regulator has heavily relied on non-enforceable reprimands. Without bringing law-breakers to account, our data rights are weakened. A slap on the wrist isn't a deterrent. The ICO even refused to investigate the Ministry of Defence for the most serious data breach in UK history. This was the final straw, leading to ORG calling for an inquiry with over 70 groups and experts. Data is your digital DNA 🧬 It reveals who you are. That’s why companies, government bodies and criminals want access to it. Whether it’s to stop profiteering, surveillance or fraud, data protection is the answer. But the UK data regulator isn't enforcing the law. The UK data watchdog is all bark, no bite. From failing to investigate complaints to forgoing regulatory action in favour of a slap on the wrist, the ICO isn't doing its job. It's time that the regulator is overhauled, because data protection laws only work if they're enforced. "A new class action lawsuit accuses OpenAI of sharing data including user chat queries and personal identifying information like emails and user IDs with the tech giants — and targeted advertising behemoths — Meta and Google, without obtaining proper user consent. Filed yesterday in California, the lawsuit claims that OpenAI’s data-sharing with Google and Meta violates the California Invasion of Privacy Act, known as CIPA, as well as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act. It points specifically to OpenAI’s integrations with Meta Pixel and Google Analytics, which are data-tracking and collection tools that facilitate targeted advertisements. The data-tracking model described in the lawsuit — often referred to as “surveillance capitalism” — is the business that the modern internet is built on today. And OpenAI, like countless other tech companies, does include language in its privacy policy noting that it does collect, store, and share a range of consumer inputs and personal information." https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/openai-personal-information-meta-google #AI #GenerativeAI #OpenAI #Surveillance #Meta #Google #DataProtection #Privacy

Are you accidentally feeding corporate secrets to AI? 🛑🤖 Every time you type a prompt into a chatbot like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, you aren't just getting an answer—you might be permanently feeding your private data into their next-generation models. Whether it's client information, proprietary code, or personal medical questions, leaving your default settings turned on exposes you to massive privacy risks. The good news? You can shut this data pipeline down today. Restricting data access won't degrade the quality of the AI's answers—it just protects your privacy. We’ve put together a step-by-step guide on exactly where the hidden "opt-out" toggles are located for OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and more. Lock down your data before it's too late! 👇 🔗 Read the full guide here: https://digiglitch.net/bjqg #PrivacyMatters #CyberSecurity #ChatGPT #DataProtection #TechTips #DigiGlitch #AIWorkflow

There needs to be an urgent rethink on digital ID age checks. Unregulated providers sitting on a pot of highly sensitive data. What could go wrong? Breaches have already happened, T&Cs allow them to use it for advertising purposes and behind-the-scenes links to surveillance companies. @pheonix@hachyderm.io I think the #Enshittification of the #Web needs to be pushed back hard. As in: If it can't use that #Website with @torproject@mastodon.social / #TorBrowser over an #Iridium connection @2400bit/s it should be illegal to put it online! Kind of harsh, IK. I'm so sick of the Enshittification that it makes me more and more "militant" in terms of #Privacy, #DataProtection, #ConsumerRights & #UserRights. This mistreatment reminds me of the Gaming Industry excl. #Valve

For Data Protection Day 2026, we're taking you from Ancient Rome to now. Our rights expanded in the Information Age to include the electronic body. Data is our DNA. But now protections are shrinking. All while surveillance becomes industrialised, AI outstrips regulation and our institutions fall under corporate capture. We must learn from history and course correct now. Read our blog ⬇️ https://www.openrightsgroup.org/blog/give-a-bit-theyll-take-a-megabyte-data-protection-then-and-now/ #DataProtectionDay #dataprotection #privacy #humanrights #DataPrivacyDay
