eudev – Der Gerätemanager [Devuan GNU/Linux]

Geräteerkennung ist eine der Aufgaben, die ein Betriebssystem im Hintergrund erledigen muss – ohne dass der Benutzer sich darum kümmern muss. USB-Sticks, Festplatten, Soundkarten, Netzwerkinterfaces: All das muss erkannt, konfiguriert und für das System zugänglich gemacht werden. In systemd-basierten Distributionen übernimmt das systemd-udev. #Devuan #GNU #Linux setzt auf eudev – einen freien, unabhängigen #Fork, der die Geräteverwaltung übernimmt, ohne an systemd gebunden zu sein. eudev ist ein Gerätemanager, der auf udev basiert und von der Gentoo-Community entwickelt wurde. Es erkennt Hardware automatisch, legt Device-Nodes in /dev/ an und führt Benutzer-Skripte aus, wenn sich der Gerätestatus ändert – etwa beim Einstecken eines USB-Sticks. #eudev übernimmt diese Aufgaben: Erkennung von #Hardware beim #Boot und zur Laufzeit Anlegen von #Device-Nodes in /dev/ Ausführung von #Regeln bei #Geräteereignissen Erstellung von Symlinks (z.B. /dev/disk/by-uuid/) linux.ambag.es/devuan/dienste/…

Reading https://www.spurint.org/journal/2026/07/llms-and-xfwl4 where an #xfce dev admits to AI slop vibecoding what may be significant parts of the #Wayland port. This is a really bad precedent to set, this should not be allowed. I'm hoping this trend doesn't continue, but it will definitely lead to actionable responses if it does. #gnu #linux

Vor nicht all zu langer Zeit, hatte ich hier eine kleine Diskussion. Sie entstand durch meine Frage zum Thema "beste Linux-Distro". (Details tun hier nichts zur Sache.) Mir wurde die Kritik entgegengebracht, dass Debian nur so alte Pakete böte. Auch der Kernel sei "veraltet". Mir persönlich ist das nicht so wichtig. Viel wichtiger ist mir die Stabilität, die ich aus eigener Erfahrung einfach bestätigen kann. Auch sehr wichtig ist mir, nicht jeden neuen Schmeiß mit zu machen. So wie systemd z.B. . Deshalb bin ich bei Devuan gelandet. Aber das aller wichtigste, und der eigentliche Grund für Linux überhaupt, ist doch die GNU-Lizenz. Ein FREIes Betriebssystem, ist das oberste Ziel. Dem bin ich heute ein kleines Stück näher gekommen. Und hab so ganz nebenbei auch noch von 6.12.96 auf 7.1.0 upgegradet. #Linux #GNU

Alright, now GCC allows "limited amounts" of slop. So I guess in a throwback to 30-ish years ago, we'll see a GCC fork without slop soon-ish? Anyone remember the olden days of the GCC forks and EGCS? #noai #gcc #gnu #fsf #egcs

Today I talked about GNU Guix at MashhadLUG, our local Linux User Group. I’ve published the presentation files on GitHub.
