I had an idea and then realized I don't think I'd be able to use it. I could feasibly set the age of the sim to be the TODO values, and then have a column for that value, but I don't think I can do table math with TODO states, especially when those states aren't just two.
Some #emacs people might have some ideas, but I'm not that fussed about just making a separate column for whether a sim has hit YA or not

The thing that broke #meow for me was that the a and i behave the same when you don't have a anything selected meaning that you can continue writing after something.
I never knew this was the default behaviour of #Emacs because I used evil right from the start.

I'm admittedly jealous b/c you had access to a #POSIX system (& a #FOSS one too!) from your earliest computer-using time in life.
I “wasted”¹ my teenage years with a Commodore 64² — writing in BASIC & 6502 assembler.
I was ≈ 18 years old before I got access to a “real” computer running #Unix SYSVR3.2.3 & ported #GNU #Emacs to it.
¹ I learned useful skills, but it yielded no useful artifacts.
² Yes, @cwebber@social.coop, I *was* keeping up with #Commodore, but it was *not* keeping up with me!!

When people learn about our issue, they will avoid us like plague and the employment world will be closed forever. The only way to share my issues is through a semi anonymous Mastodon account. Note: since English is not my native language, I often edit my posts to make them easier to read or to fix grammar mistakes.

I will make a comparison. Editor like Atom, VSCode and Zed are a Toyota. Very nice car indeed.
But Emacs is a battle tank or Apache helicopter or even an alien mother ship.
People will find it much easier to drive a Toyota. But people need lot of practice to drive a battle tank.

Emacs is such a wonderful editor. But it has a huge advantage and a problem at the same time.
It is highly efficient and highly intuitive for those proficient with it. But need time to practice and highly UNintuitive for those starting to use Emacs.
Many people need editor which can be used fast.

I found this reply that I made in 1984 to Dennis Ritchie in the net.followup newsgroup. I was at the time lobbying Sun to add 8-bit character set support to the firmware, but they wanted to hold out for a 16-bit system, like the as yet unnamed Unicode. There was eventually an interim solution but my memory of that is a bit foggy.
