@joeress@mastodon.social #xfce is going to make you very sad today, I’m afraid.

@mgorny@social.treehouse.systems Oh bugger! #Xfce is often my go-to DE. Ffs. Are there any lightweight, sloppless DEs left?

If anyone's wondering, #Xfce is a #slop junk now too, and the author is busy writing long excuses for them, with full realization of how harmful they are. https://www.spurint.org/journal/2026/07/llms-and-xfwl4 #NoAI #NoLLM

Reading https://www.spurint.org/journal/2026/07/llms-and-xfwl4 where an #xfce dev admits to AI slop vibecoding what may be significant parts of the #Wayland port. This is a really bad precedent to set, this should not be allowed. I'm hoping this trend doesn't continue, but it will definitely lead to actionable responses if it does. #gnu #linux

#xfce is now being slop coded by #ai #llm - we lost a good one, folks. https://www.spurint.org/journal/2026/07/llms-and-xfwl4 #linux #tech #desktop #bsd

(sigh) If you were wondering like me if the #XFCE folks use LLM code generators or not.... well the dude working on their wayland compositor just removed all doubt; by posting their justification on using LLM code to their blog. I would recommend folks not pile on the guy in his comments section or anything. Just take note, and choose software or not according to your internal policy on such things. #FlOSS #AntiAI

maybe I should write some silly little Xfce widget as a thing. I remember on the Mac, when they introduced a strip of buttons at the bottom that could pop up menus and stuff (very familiar stuff these days) I tried to figure out how to get a plugin into their deskbar (whatever it was called, this was late System 7 into 8 days) to display something other than a popup menu. I was hoping to get it to pop up something slightly larger, like a small game board. but I failed. with #Xfce it ought to be rather easier I'm guessing

#linux #oldcomputer #sparky #xfce #acer #travelmate #7740G

I just downloaded the .iso for Peppermint OS - Devuan edition: https://peppermintos.com/trixie-base-downloads/ I plan on testing it on an underwhelming little white Lenovo laptop with only 2GB memory (RAM). #PepperMintOS #Devuan #xfce

Diesmal wollte ich wissen, was #Linux #Distros “out of the Box” an Speicher verbrauchen.

@rl_dane@polymaths.social @synlogic4242@social.vivaldi.net I've recently put #OpenBSD on my daily with #XFCE and it is super smooth and fast. The only issue is the craptastic state of browsers and the web means that non-local computing constantly dumps itself. This is not an OpenBSD fault, this is the fault of the modern web. No wonder zero days can be exploited with ease. Now I have to work out my least crap option OS to install so I can interact with the shitty web while remaining protected from whatever brain fart comes from the USA political class.
