Parallel zum #repaircafe findet auch wieder unser #Linux - Cafe statt! Sa, 08. August, von 13:30 - 17:30 laden wir zur Info- und Installationsrunde ein! Ort: Werkräume der Ludwig-Heyd-Schule. Idealerweise habt ihr von eurem PC oder Laptop eine Sicherungskopie erstellt - falls ihr dabei Hilfe braucht können wir euch vor Ort auch unterstützen. Nicht vergessen: Zubehör! (Netzteil etc) Um 15:00 gibt es zusätzlich erneut eine kurze Präsentation für Interessierte, die im Thema noch neu sind.

My old computer chair broke. It was quality, but I just got too heavy for too long for it and it gave up... ... Yesterday I begun looking for a replacement... but today, I flipped it over and took it apart. I decided that it can be repaired. Luckily I knew the secret steampunk shop down the industrial alley that did walk in metalwork, and after 2 minutes of welding and $20... I had a servicable chair again. Felt good to save money and not throw shit onto the rubbish pile too! #Repaircafe #RepairReuseRecycle

@sam One thing to remember when getting people interested is that the actual repairers are not the only vital roles. Admin, publicity, meet-and-greet are all just as important, so if someone likes the idea but has no repair skills, they may be very valuable in other areas. #RepairCafe

Had a Repair Cafe today! The local library hosts one every quarter. This was the second one and we had 50 people show up! We're hoping to start offering it more frequently, they're just ramping up. I was there for bike repair. I used to have a solid kit built out, but lost a lot of my tools in previous moves, so I'm building it out again. I had two bikes that came in today. I tuned rear derailleurs and break lines. Swapped out some break pads. Pumped up tires and did sole basic cleaning. I made a note to bring some CLP and rags for the next go around as cleaning off gunk solves a lot of problems. I was backup for laptop repairs and Linux installs (the local Linux Install Party showed up!) but focused mainly on bikes. I met some folks. One person from a local church group that is interested in maybe hosting a free fridge or otherwise volunteering with my food group and a person from the town's green initiative that is interested in personally working with my food group. There is a lot of overlap with various mutual aid groups. You get started with one and you end up learning about all the others! Ich bin total begeistert von dem großartigen #RepairCafe im Kap37 in #Muenchen. Tolle Leute, sozial engagiert, und wir haben gemeinsam meinen 35 Jahre alten Plattenspieler wieder zum Laufen gebracht. Alleine hätte ich das nicht geschafft, und das wäre ein großer Jammer gewesen. (Während wir mit dem Plattenspieler beschäftigt waren wurden gleichzeitig auch eine Nähmaschine, eine Lampe und ein Radio reanimiert. Echte Nachhaltigkeit!)

Bore Da Bydoed! Good Morning Worlds! We have Mum's laundry in the machine, and have loaded up tools in the car. We are off to Levenshulme Repair Cafe this morning. I have a thing I would like someone else to repair for me, this time. It is my Elecom EX-G lefty trackball mouse. This afternoon I want to pack more books. At Repair Cafe today I repaired: A kid's ride on electric tractor dead after a long time in storage - I picked it up and worked the switches and it ran. A Hetty vacuum - replaced the pcb, and checked connections. A metal bed frame - it needed a new rivet nut installing. A hedge trimmer - It needed cleaning out, and the cutter bar cleaning, lubricating, and sharpening. A cordless strimmer - The motor is burnt out after being tied up with lots of string and weed membrane. It needs a new motor. A kettle - the switch has overheated and burnt contacts. My trackball mouse was checked, and it seems the buck converter to power the laser has failed. I will keep it for spares. #RepairCafe
