@cidney@mastodon.gamedev.place I enthusiastically recommend Nextcloud. I think it will have a lot of the features you're looking for. Talk = Discord/Slack. Not as many features but has voice and video calling, which is rare for selfhosted apps. Forum = Yep, it can do forums with the same users as all the other apps you install. Forms = Surveys! Office = Office suite with apps you'd expect I'm sure there are options for email blasts too. Every file made by each app is shareable. Sharing new betas or patches is super easy. And one advantage it has over almost every other app is you can talk to and interact with users who don't wish to make an account. No more dark web! It's not perfect and it's simplistic sometimes but I made one to replace a Discord and have been having a blast on it. #Nextcloud #discordalternatives  #discordmigration #discordisoverparty #matrixorg #irc

Question for the community. How's y'all's experience with various Instant Messaging services? I don't use discord except with some of my friends, and I'm trying to get away, as it seems to be going the way of enshittification. I've used Matrix before, and I'm aware of some of the technical annoyances as a user. Does it tend to have good community (like, among gay nerdy Mastodon folks at least?). What about the other options, like XMPP clients, or like Delta Chat or something? I believe I've even heard (i might be wrong) that IRC 3 allows for asynchronous texting, so you don't have to be online in order to keep receiving messages that you can read later? Is this a thing? Everytime I look this up, I can't find any good info one way or the other. Even if there's no community, I'm curious what y'all think has the potential to become a somewhat ubiquitous technology among folks on Fedi? I would love a native, screenreader #accessible, fast, #matrix app for Windows. I would also like not to create it, because Matrix is even more vast, complex, and incomprehensible than #XMPP and #IRC. Anyone? No? Didn't think so. Sigh.

Today has been IRC day! I finally got around to setting up an IRC server with IRCv3 support: ergochat. Configuration was very sensible. So far seems to be running well. I've got The Lounge set up as a web interface too. The IRCv3 features are very nice, especially getting chat backlog on connection and multiple client support. Both are on the same domain, and Caddy is the proxy for all HTTP(s) on the server. To keep the TLS for the IRCd up-to-date, I have a separate container that syncs the files from Caddy to ergo. I'm trying a new desktop client: Halloy, as a replacement for poor old IRSSI, which has no support for IRCv3 yet. On mobile I'm trying Igloo. The multiple client support means I can have the browser, desktop app, and mobile app all connected to the IRC server without having to run pounce/znc. https://github.com/ergochat/ergo https://github.com/thelounge/thelounge #irc #selfhosting

Vielä hetki sitten ihmiset irkissä pohtivat kuoleeko IRC jossain vaiheessa. Nyt näyttää siltä, että tilanne on muuttunut. Meidän Quakenetin #pulina kanava on ollut nyt pystyssä 18 vuotta ja ihmeen hyvin se on pysynyt aktiivisena. Irkkaaminen on mulle elämäntapa. En osaa kuvitella arkeani ilman irciä. Se olisi tosi outoa, koska tykkään kirjoitella _koko ajan_. 😂 #irc
